No no, no your daughter had no such experience. As many experts on this forum will tell you a cab off motor swap is completely routine, barley more than an alternator swap and well within the skill set of any certified dealership mechanic. Nothing to lose sleep over, it goes perfectly every time.

In all seriousness regarding the "long block speculation" Toyota has not promised anyone more than a "replacement engine assembly" No one including the techs knows what that means and no one has received one either. Anyone claiming otherwise is making stuff up.

 

Wait, what aren't they swapping you out with a brand new engine as we speak like everyone here is claiming. You should be back on the road before the weekend correct?

I correct myself. The 2021/2022 Ford 2.7- and 3.0-liter EcoBoost engines valves does seem to be pretty bad, but seems to be the only one approaching regular catastrophic engine failure.

So I take it your valley plate gasket, cam tower seals, timing tensioner, crossover pipe oring, have not had to be replace or repaired leading to extended out of service times?

I haven’t experienced any of those - and I haven’t seen a single catastrophic failure related to any of those issues either. 3UR might ooze some juices but it keeps churning.

The valve guide issue is one I haven’t seen before and is cause for concern imo but then again nothing surprises me when you have these small displacement engines making monster torque.

 

None of those issues have happened to you the same as no issues have happened to over 100,000 3.45L Toyotas here. People just love to hate.

Catastrophic failure perhaps not in every case. However, they are still issues that leave you without your car for an extend period of time. Worse they will likely happen out of warranty leaving the consumer on the hook for a very expensive repair.

Neither engine is perfect. If you look at my profile you will see I own one of each and can attest to the imperfections of both. Acting like one is perfect while the other is entirely flawed is pretty short sighted.

There is no need pile on others misery and its foolish to ignore the problems that exist in both engines.

I’m not the one trolling him. Others Are saying he’s overreacting and should not be so concerned with a non drivable truck because he can get a new engine “swapped” anytime he wants. I’m literally sympathizing with him because he is right and they are wrong.

You’re comparing a very minor repairable design issue to a catastrophic manufacturing defect . Assuming Toyota is telling us the full story they shipped truck after truck after truck of motors full of loose shards of metal…for years .

Getting annoyed because the peanut gallery are telling us (who actually own the truck!!!), how we should be feeling and reacting, seems like a perfectly natural reaction actually.
How’s about, you stop trying to discuss the recall or, at least, change your approach because it’s clearly not what it appears you’re doing, and we’ll stop “losing our minds” as you so eloquently put it?

 

I get annoyed and you should too when people post false claims that Toyota has brand new engines available for anyone in the current recall who wants one. That is simply not true.

Others are claiming that this is a very minor issue isolated to a very few trucks.
They totally dismiss the mountain of Facebook and Reddit posts showing they are dropping like flies…..daily. Then out of the other side of their mouth point to the scope the recall and somehow claim that’s further proof that the vast majority of motors are fine and it’s just Toyota being overly thorough.

Now we have multiple sources talking about 2024 being recalled, still ignoring hybrids and still no actual remedy for those in the recall.

As car care nut just said, Toyota is absolutely on this forum watching and listening. Those of you going around saying everything is fine and don’t worry about it are doing nobody a favor.

As far as claims that only current owners should comment, I would very much like to get into a Tundra for and have for multiple years now, but toyota needs to fix this first.

So guys like me are here to discuss the problems with the new 3.4TT motor as we are weighing the risks of buying a new 2024/2025. Then there are a couple thin skinned Karens who already own the truck and tell us to shut up because they believe the motor issue is a minor inconvenience. So wait, a few Karens have the truck already, don’t believe they’ll have any issues with the motor, and don’t really care if they do get a new long block…. so what’s the point of hanging around here? Isn’t there a Starbucks employee someplace that needs a lecture?

But cam tower seepage has never stranded anyone. Neither have timing chain rattle or generally noisy operation on 0w20 oil. These things really don't even need to be fixed It's mostly the coolant valley leak that'll put your truck on the lift for half a day. Even that gives lots of notice before stranding you. The fuel pump is a problem that I wish were more rare.

Nearly perfect bill of health for my 185k 3UR here. Would love some of you 100k+ V35A-FTS guys to drop an oil report in this thread. Would be nice to have one spot with high mileage reports for all gens.

The crux of your entire post hinges on the 2.5 Gen camp saying our trucks our perfect, while the 3rd Gens are all turds - which as I stated, HAS NEVER HAPPENED.
