Not sure if it’s more trolling or you’re just confused but that is not what Ryan said. He was always clear if it happened it happened. He never said his oil changes would stop it. And ahhhh, check my profile for tundras owned.

I will give you trolls objective data. ‘24’s have only been out 13 months. If averages hold, they only have 6500 miles average. Some are still on lots. It’s simply too early for anyone to know one way or another.

I have a very simple take on this matter as an owner of a 2024 truck. I will enjoy the truck for my use, and if the engine seizes, I will have Toyota fix it and then trade it in. I do not see anything to worry about over and above the everyday risk of a breakdown with any vehicle. Life is too short to worry about such mundane matters IMO.

 

I traded my 2020 tundra for my late build 23. The only thing I miss about that 2020 is the engine note.

Go buy a gm/ford/ram. You’re guaranteed not to have any issues with their powertrains……

 

No offense, but Lifters, Injectors, AC even transmission and everything else the Big 3 are seeing are all pretty dang minor compared to what V-35A is seeing. 1-2 day fix vs. best case weeks out of commission and a cab off repair. I passed a sweet 3rd gen TRD pro pulled over this morning with flashers on and hood up on the Interstate. Not a safe place to pull over at all. He probably just ran out of gas..

When replacement long blocks become readily available for all owners and hybrids , I would agree with that. Otherwise, some of us aren't too keen on rocking a Yaris for 60-90 days.

 

I own a 22, if I get a new engine in 25 .....like I just won the lottery. My VIN still doesn't trigger a recall

Supply of replacement engines is improving and should get even better with time, and as dealers become more adept, the time in the shop would be expected to get shorter too. I do not see the 60-90 day out-of-service time persisting much longer, given that. Again, not much to lose sleep over at this time.

 

I’m not sure we’ve heard any of that from Toyota.

While I hope you're right, there are two issues:

1. Just last Friday I saw them working a short block replacement of a Tundra engine at the dealership. Not mine. Told they're using parts from the existing motor. When the true replacements come in, they'll replace it again. Also told they're only doing this for vehicles that came in before the official recall was issued. Mine was after.

2. I don't want to be a guinea pig. Mine will be one of the first at this dealership to get a whole new engine, if it happens. It's been said before, but I'm "concerned" (that word is in quotes because it understates how I feel) about their level of skill in putting in a whole new engine. As you state, times for replacements will get better "as dealers become more adept (and) the time in the shop would... get shorter too."

Very curious: Where did you hear the "Supply of replacement engines is improving?"

I fully understand your concerns, but for now, that is all they are. If I were in your shoes, I'd drive the truck for now, and see where the best dealership with the most experience with such swaps is at the time if and when it is actually needed. Who knows, by then that particular dealership may have done many more replacements before yours. Any dealership that is willing to replace an engine twice just to get the customer back on the road as quickly as possible, and to stand behind their work to do it again properly once they have the long block as part of the official recall seems to me like a dealership trying to do as best as they can by their customers.

And I can assure you that the supply chain can only get better and better with time, as would the expanding pool of mechanics working on doing them get better in expertise as well.

As for me, I bought a 24 knowing about the recall, and as I said, I will deal with any failure if and when it happens as previously stated. In the meantime, I am enjoying my truck for what it does do very well.

 

My buddies name is Brandon. A few months ago he was pretty sick of “Let’s go Brandon”.

 

Hopefully the Toyota dealers will handle it better than the Hyundai dealer did with our daughters Santa Fe when it's motor blew up under similar circumstances as the V35, "debris left over from manufacturing". Initially they weren't even going to warranty the motor, until her husband got involved, then the motor was replaced but it still took at least 5-6 visits back to the dealer to fix niggling things like coolant leaks, turbo hoses blowing off (clamp wasn't tightened), and various other problems from a lousy install/re-install of her new motor. She finally took it to her normal local mechanic who got everything buttoned up properly and it has run fine since but was a major pita getting through that ordeal.

Does anyone know if the new replacement long blocks will have new turbos or will those be re-used?

 

My issue is I can't drive the truck. Mine is one that failed.

What supply? Where is the supply of replacement long blocks available today? Not at any of the 3 dealers I talked to. None, zero zilch.

 

You sir are betting on the come, there are no "swaps" happening today nor have they happened in the past. They are rebuilding short blocks one part at a time. Your comments about "mechanics and supply chain getting better" related to engine swaps are pure speculation about what may or may not happen in the future.
