Yea for whatever reason, mine only shows elevation, no temp or DA.

Most of the guys in the 4s are pulling over a G at launch. This run was no brake boosting. I’ve noticed if you load the drivetrain with brake boosting, the G level isn’t as high.

How do you launch? I'll try to emulate it.

4WD HI and smash the pedal to the floor.

I’ve tried some runs with brake boosting to about 2000 rpm and it didn’t yield any better times. Others have had better experiences with brake boosting but I’ve done about 20 runs in the past 2 days and saw no difference.

If we actually had a high stall torque converter that would let you build up some brake boost RPMs these things would really launch hard.

How much boost are you pulling for that run (approximately)???

Spikes are 11.x but most WOT runs are in the 9-10 range.
I’m on 100% stock exhaust so that might be contributing to the higher measured psi.

Installed the DD 12" today. Drilled the hole for the resonator but couldn't install it cause the 3" clamps actually measured 3 1/4. Drove to the auto parts store to buy 2 3/4 which measure 2.9 and it's a perfect fit around the resonator.
Sound wise, I have mixed feelings. Start up sounds nice. Has that nice growl. Now driving to the auto parts store, I would have figured it would be some what stock sounding. You know it's there and thought it would be a bit quieter. Stepped on it a bit and you definitely hear it. Now I can't hear the SC whine as before with the stock exhaust. We will see what the resonator does to normal driving around. Been raining all day on and off so it will have to wait till tomorrow.

I've hauled it wot in 4hi before but not with my current setup. The first time when my front end raised and pulled hard to the right I thought the tires were going to spin so I let off. The 2nd time was a bit more spirited but will find a better location. I do have an on ramp that merges to the hwy that will be more legit in all aspects as far as driving is concerned.

    Ok, 2 stupid questions:

First... in reference to the very bottom number (0-60 1ft) time... Is that 0-60 time adjusted to sea level, or is it referencing something else??

Second, for the guys launching in 4wd HI... (I'm just spitballin' here so bare w/me on this) I'm assuming the weakest part of the main driveline (engine, trans, differentials, etc...) are probably the CVs :notsure: I thought about this before, and for some that build crawlers or do a lot of 4Lo work, I would assume this is one of the reasons they opt for only doing rear locker (assuming the concern w/front locker is CV failure under that much torque). So, using this theory, wouldn't 4wd HI launches be risky from the same perspective, or does the wheel spin (if even slight) allow enough slip not to bind or overtorque the CVs??

Again, not judging, critiquing, or armchair quarterbacking anyone. I'm just looking for opinions to store in my tiny brain for future endeavors :D

You do have quite the wild setup as I recall! Pushing it to the limit.

The 0-60 (1ft) is with one foot of rollout which is what many magazines/reviews reference for 0-60 time. It essentially doesn’t start the clock until 1’ of movement I believe is the simplest explanation? I’d agree the CVs are probably the weakest but I’ve never seen/heard many (if any) reports of people snapping them launching in 4x4. There’s some trucks out there that have had A LOT of launches in 4x4 while supercharged that
Haven’t had a failure. Perhaps it’s less brutal on them then extreme torque offroad while having them flexed at strange angles. :notsure:

That is my understanding - the CV’s basically being the weakest link. I haven’t gotten wild enough to have any experience breaking driveline parts on my truck, but generally speaking, IFS front ends have two big weak links when it comes to power transfer - cv joints and tie rods.

Look at GM trucks that bend tie rods when doing 4wd launches or even just using 4WD in a relatively benign manner. The torque applied to the wheels pulls the wheels forward which rotates them around the ball joints; their undersized tie rods deflect, then bend and allow the wheels to become pigeon-toed. Luckily, our trucks have pretty stout tie rods.

CV’s also fail in a similar manner - when deflection is involved, they can bind and break. This can be from having the wheels turned, having excess live lift or wheel droop, or play in the components/bushings/front end parts. If you’ve ever used a socket u joint at a good angle, you see it work fine for 1/4 rotation, then try to climb up and out, and bind. But if you keep the wheels straight and don’t blow off the rear tires on launch, they should be fine. *should* be..

So I was looking today at my DW fuel pump and noticed it comes with a plastic wrapper around the pump. Question, did anyone remove the wrapper or did you just install it as is? Got me thinking if that wrapper ever comes off what could happen.

Ahem, cough, cough...I too thought of that as I lowered my truck on the lift...I wasn't going back in... I'm hoping it was meant to stay but nothing feels right about that...so far, she's loving the pump update!
