    I have a 2010 tundra 5.7L and am towing a 8800 gvw camper. Can I safely carry a 1000 lb golf cart?

With these trucks whatever weight you think you should be able to haul, half it and you MIGHT be good lol

Check you payload sticker in driver door for your actual specs for your truck as built.

800-1100 lb golf cart in the bed and towing a 9k lb camper is not going to be something you want to do in a half ton. That camper alone will be a unpleasant tow in a Tundra.

3/4 ton stuff. You’ll be at least 1,000 lbs over payload in a tundra.

In that case - each wheel is missing 3 studs.

I disagree. I daily more than that in my truck and it is quite pleasant.

In the 2004 universe when Toyota was designing the tundra, 3/4 ton trucks were just starting to breach the 10k lb towing spec. A first generation duramax equipped 2500HD had a 10k lb towing cap, and under 2k payload. A real 2500 Chevy - not 2500HD than everybody ubiquitously refers to as 3/4 tons, but an actual 3/4 ton 6.0L truck had a tow cap in the 8-9k range and payload under 2k. So ya, in that universe, it was strongly a 3/4 ton truck. My OOBS 3/4 ton camper special 2500 Chevy had a tow cap of 7800 lbs with a 5.7L V8. The same vintage Ford F250 light duty had a tow cap of 7000 lbs while the F250 Super Duty had a tow cap of 11,000 lbs. It wasn't until the mid 2010's that half ton's caught up to that with the rare exception of the unicorn-package equipped half ton, and 3/4 tons surpassed the 14k towing cap on the regular.

Not sayin' he should do, just sayin the Gen 2 tundra punched squarely in to 3/4 ton truck territory. But just for kicks and giggles, let say the OP has a regular cab long bed 5.7 4wd. Tow cap 10,200, payload 1900 lbs.

    1900 lbs
    -660 lb golf cart
    -350 lbs for passengers
-8000*.11 tongue weight (or 880 lbs)
    ==================
10 lbs left over on his payload.

So, ya, it's certainly within the realm of possibility in this current reality for the tundra to load a golf cart in the bed and pull an 8k lb trailer. :bananadance:

0% chance he has 1900 of payload. You do you - we’ve seen the posts about trucks eating rear bearings after being overloaded because the axles are load bearing and deform.

so it is actually my wife’s truck and she always told me it was a three-quarter ton so that is what I went by. More updates when she gets back with it.

I've told my wife what 10" looks like and as long as I hide the rulers and tape measure from her, she is good with that.

Nooooo. It's a half ton, and it's a half ton with really low payload.

Look in the driver door jamb. Your payload is nowhere near 3/4 ton territory.

I didn’t say that he did have 1900 lbs payload - just that with a regular cab long bed a tundra very well could. A hypothetical as noted by saying “let’s say that…” except that it’s a realistic hypothetical not a completely u realistic one. Those trucks do exist and we’re indeed manufactured by Toyota and released in to the wild.

As for wheel bearings… I’d posit that big tires and aggressive offset wheels wreak more havoc on a daily driver’s wheel bearings than stock wheels and tires on a truck at GVW. 212k on the clock with a bed that’s never empty and/or towing a trailer about 1/4 of those miles and and my original wheel bearings are still quite happy. Even if they did take a dump tomorrow, I got my monies worth out of them.

I’m not advocating for grossly overloading a vehicle. Nor am I trying to play Macho Man Randy Savage and show off how big my tundra’s muscles are cuz I use tit to tow and haul stuff everyday. I just find it silly that the automatic forum reaction to any and all towing or hauling threads is: ‘tundras have pathetically weak payload and can’t tow anything without suffering a catastrophically ignominious death. Get a 3/4 ton’. When the reality is - it is possible with right setup. And Diesel 3/4 tons don’t have all that much more payload, especially comparing like model years.

I recall not long ago somebody popped on here asking about a go fast camper. They were immediately shunned, exorcised, and crucified, then driven from the forum like a rented mule that had been lit on fire as it was hitched to a wagon full of explosive ordinances. Turned out the guy DID have a RCLB with nearly 2000 lbs payload. Even with him, his wife, and the GFC, he was under payload.

It’s just funny to me, is all.

Why would anyone jump about a GFC? They weigh like 300 lbs. You sure it wasn't a 4 wheel camper? Nobody here would bat an eye about a GFC.

I’m sure I conflate the two in my mind. A truck bed camper designed to go off-road a little - prolly a 4 wheel camper as you suggest. Weighs around 1400 lbs. GFC’s are basically a hollowed out camper shell with a pop up roof, then?

GFC is an aluminum frame/brace setup for strength, but nothing inside. Just the tent on top.

Gotcah. Ya, I'm sure I conflated the two an was referring to a 4 wheel camper.
