I am planning on doing the first oil change on my new to me 2018 Tundra this weekend. I have got amsoil on the way and Toyota filters stocked up at the house. I have dropped the ball on getting the crush washers for the drain bolt though. I assumed the ones on Amazon would be 2 day shipping but they are not... I am trying to get the oil changed before a trip and none of the oem crush washers will make it in time. With that being said, has anyone had any luck or recommend any from auto zone or O'Reillys? Do I chance it and reuse the one thats on there for this oil change? Thanks in advance for any help!

You'll survive reusing the ones that are already on there.

You got a dealership in driving range you can run to to get them?

If you don't have a local dealer just reuse. Many people don't even know you're supposed to change it. It'll be fine for one oil change

If you got the Toyota OEM filters, maybe open one up and look inside?
I can't remember too well, but I think there is a rubber seal and a washer inside?
If not, I think any autozone/O'Reilly same size washer should be fine.

I have forgotten about the washer since I went with Fumoto, look it up on their website and search here, quite a few people have it and has made oil change a breeze and clean.

Adjust for your engine, I just ran it as 2018 with 4.7L

Unfortunately the closest dealer is about an hour away. I was hoping to get some reassurance here that Id be fine reusing the old one for one oil change! Thanks!

Not necessary on a Tundra, but I would say on all the cars I work on at home, I forget at least A COUPLE OF TIMES to switch out the crush washer, I have them, it just slipped my mind and I just plug it back in and then looked at the extra washer when I was cleaning up and like, damn it, not gonna change it now since it's full with new oil, and of course, never had a problem with it....

Yea, unfortunately, this wouldn't be the last time.....lol
Just don't make a habit of doing it. But if you plan on doing most of the oil change yourself going forward, get those supplies in stock.

I have 60,000 mi on my truck with the same washer because it's been stuck to the oil pan ever since the first oil change, no leaks.

Same here. My 2018 has had 8 oil changes (by me) and the washer has been stuck to the pan with all of them. No issues at all. Just go easy on tightening the drain plug, no need to give it more than just a snug (it's not holding your connecting rod caps on).

Check post #155 on this thread for a good discussion on oil changes:

Yeah I bought washers and everything and then went to do the oil change and it was stuck. Read about people damaging their pan trying to get it off so I left it. They're not even crush washers, just a metal washer with some blue material on it. If it ever comes off Ill replace it but so far so good.

Yea, I am just surprised that it stuck on there for that long, but if no leak then you are good.....

Yeah what ever that blue material is must have melted to the pan. I check ever oil change to see it wants to come off. I've reused crush washers before on vehicles too, never had a leak. If something is gunna leak that washer isn't going to stop it. They are there more so to keep people from over tightening the drain bolt.

300 hectares on single tank of kerosene
Napa/autozone or wherever sell the M12 fiber type or the M12 rubber coated aluminum type. The fiber type are better because you don't really have to put much torque at all on them compared to the rubber coated aluminum. They only sell the fiber type in assortment packs which doesn't make any sense at all, much like everything else in life.

There isn’t a crush washer on your oil drain bolt.

You can get the washers at any Toyota dealership parts department for .99 cents. That and Toyota Super White touch up paint is the only thing I get from there.
But for oil changes get Lots of newspaper, it's a messy job with those Toyota oil filter canisters :crapstorm:

There's a washer on there, huh. News to me, lol. But yeah, I have NEVER EVER changed a washer on my oil plugs. Never had an issue is any of my 40+ vehicles. I guess it comes from working as an industrial mechanic and never changing them out either and never an issue.

Same. Been changing the oil in mine every 5k since I bought it new. Never had a washer on it. Still never does. Never seen a drop from the bolt. Almost at 90k.

    Too many, but not enough....
I honestly wouldn't believe someone if they said they got a leak from reusing those washers. I never seen a leak from that in the 20 years and dozens of cars and hundreds of oil changes I done. Hell, my dad's old 2000's ford's don't even have washers from the factory.

…wow I really am in the minority here…

I change the washer every time I change the oil (5k). The dealership practically gave me a sandwich bag full of the for less than 10 bucks. I maintain multiple Toyotas….
