Looks like I need to make an appointment with the dealership, but was wondering if anyone has seen it. Don't notice anything amiss other than the error warning and the flashing lights that will go on and off intermittently.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

From a dead stop, have you tried a sharp turn and noticed it bucking as if the transfer case is actually engaged?
If it doesn't feel like it is in fact engaged I would guess a sensor has gone a rye.

You don’t have AWD. How are you getting an AWD error?

So probably should have done it before posting, but putting into and out of 4h seems to completely have resolved it at least for now. Not sure if something was stuck partial way or if a sensor is going on the fritz, but going to watch it for a bit.

My Transfer case went bad in my Tundra at 500 miles on the ODO....Once it was replaced, I went to put it into 4H and got the same error!...Then mine was stuck into 4L and WOULD not come out. After a tow into the dealer, turns out the "master Toyota tech" that replaced the transfer case forgot to plug in a sensor....So my guess is a sensor in unplugged and or bad....Id get it checked ASAP because you don't want to be stuck in 4LOW....NOT street drivable.

Mine was doing that. I read somewhere it could be related to the gas cap not being on tight enough. Also, you likely know this, but the manual suggests driving with it in 4H once a month or so for a several miles. Not sure if it’s related to the warning, if you don’t, but I’m going to plan on doing that from now on.

You haven’t mentioned what you’re driving (yr, model, edition, pkg )

It’s most likely the transfer case actuator, super common on the early 24’s in particular

My BMW is full time AWD. When there is an issue the error message on my screen says “Drivetrain error 4x4 system limited” lol

When mine was new in and out of 4WD was as long as 20-30 secs at times while slow rolling and slightly swerving to change wheel speeds between left and right. I did this weekly for the first year and after that its in/out in about 3 seconds. I think the sliding collar on the front axle and the forks in the xfer case just loosen up a bit once they wear in.
