SOOOOO, long story, that will end up being too long, Had big plans to do most if not all myself. Having my father (85 yo) and FIL (92 yo) in Florida and both smack dab in line ,Tampa & Daytona, I thought it best to just have a local garage do what needed doing,so I can go at moments notice. Toyota friendly place with Tech stream and knowledgeable mechanics on transmission drain & fill. so here is what I got for my money, genuine Toyota parts used, except oil.

Front pads & rotors and new pins
    Rear pads & rotors
Front diff oil change - 2 new plugs and washers
T- case oil changed - Ravenol 75w ,supplied by me
Rear diff oil change - 2 new plugs and washers
    Power steering flush and fill
    Transmission drain & fill

    Flame on ! :bananadead:

I'm a satisfied customer and have found a trusted mechanic. :D

In my experience Toyota brake pads have fitting problem. Front pad I had to file slightly. Rear ones I could not install whatsoever. Bought Bosch pads, they fit just right. Next time front pads will be Bosch as well.

Use Ravenol for the diffs as well.

You can actually do everything yourself. Nothing you listed requires any significant amount of wrenching.

Worth every penny. Spend your time with the relatives.

I took my ‘07 Tundra to the dealer for all service, got to 120K never had a prob, and traded it for a new one

Now I have more time, and am doing the service myself…but it takes time and tools

It’s a great feeling having all that done, knowing your pride and joy is in good health

OK, $2K+ for brakes and fluids is robbery. Even worse when you supplied some of the fluids. That being said, labor is high these days, is what it is. Convenience can be expensive.

It is high…my dealer labor is $150/hr

Was quoted $800 for front brakes (rotors/pads) from dealership

Can buy these parts online for $300…so about 3 hrs labor —> ~ $800

Still, time is $$$ , and even a private shop is expensive

Not bad, I was quoted 1000 just for a trans service at my local steeler. I just did it myself with a pump and a collection bucket.

For almost $3k they could have at least done the spark plugs and flushed the coolant.

I'm guessing it was a full fluid exchange/flush vs just a drain & fill? If it was just a D&F, that's lunacy.

Filing down the edges because it’s a tight fit in the caliper bracket. Or wire brush out rust buildup if you live up north.

Wiring brushing I can understand, but fitment shouldn’t require you to actually take a file to the edges… unless if you just don’t compress the pistons all the way, I don’t see why even brake dust buildup can cause it.

    The Dirty T ( ^_^)_且

That's the exact opposite for me. Doesn't matter which of our vehicles I'm working on, Toyota pads always fit perfect. However, whenever I have tried aftermarket, they always fight me.

Damn, last time I had the local stealership do mine it was around $240, including the 4 qts of WS.

Yep. Done multiple vehicles numerous times and never once had I had to bring out a file to get it to fit correctly.

I don’t believe a multi billion dollar corporation would not go above and beyond in their R&D to ensure that OE parts would not fit perfectly.

It’s clearly user error in which you cannot fit your pads. Brake dust shouldn’t be a reason where your pads wouldn’t fit and if you’ve got a ton of rust around your calipers when you change out your pads, I believe the problem lies far beyond your pads not fitting correctly if in fact that it’s the correct part number for your vehicle.

Over the past few months I did all the same service myself plus serpentine belts on my gen 3 tundra around 100k mileage
    At 110k miles now
    Parts cost was $900
    Labor was zero

    $2600!
That's 5% of the cost of a new tundra
    Man, inflation sucks balls

    and they overcharged the OP
But his rig is tuned up now
I know where he’s coming from , cuz I’ve been bent over many times, no Vaseline , but just didn’t have time or expertise to do it
Hopefully those guys are competent and did a good job
I hope he gets a lot more quality time with his dad and father in law
