If this is true, this should come as no surprise to anyone who has been following this.

    **Edit Additional Thought/Comment**

We should let Ryan Gregg return to the site. He brings so much valuable information to the community.

Man that’s kinda dirty on Toyotas behalf. Selling 24 model trucks. And then dropping the bomb seems like customers would demand a buy back.

This is the sad reality of the auto industry in general. Toyota is going to make it right with engine replacements but what about all of the stress and heartache of the truck owners throughout the ordeal? Those who just want to sell and rid themselves of the headache will get hosed on the trade in and even then, what other new production half ton is out there that isn't plagued by it's own recall QA/QC issues?

    Lots of stuff!
I don't think this is official yet. The docs posted on the NHSTA site show the same dates as before.

This will give Toyota more chance to sell the 2024's before the hammer drops on the model year!

It really comes down to when the new cleaning process was implemented and rolled out. I am sure if we all asked nice, Toyota would gladly tell us their secrets ;) .

As I don't have a 3rd gen Tundra, I haven't been following this issue too closely, but I did want to pass along information I recently heard in case it hasn't been mentioned in the previous 50 pages. Speaking to someone very knowledgeable on this issue, they commented since the engine recall is not a safety issue, there is no end date on when the replacement engine needs to be installed in a recalled Tundra. So theoretically, one could drive a recalled Tundra for however long they wish (or until engine failure) before getting the engine replaced. No idea how many folks might be in a situation where it might make sense to roll the dice, but thought I'd pass it along. Sorry if this has already been beat to death.

Edit - I see the issue with my prior wording. Was trying to get the post typed before wife needed computer. The comment "the engine recall is not a safety issue" should been typed as "the engine recall is not being treated as a safety recall by Toyota." The procedural impact of this classification is that there is no end date on when the engine needs to be replaced.

@Double DC The reason the engine recall is here is because it is a safety recall. They wouldn't replace all these engines if it wasn't, they could rebuild them as they fail and it would be much less cost to Toyota.

The leaky fuel line recall is also a safety recall as is the trucks ability to run you over if you leave it running in neutral and get out to straighten your front license plate. This is also a safety recall.

The issue is that the non-hybrid trucks can loose steering and braking resulting in a crash. The hybrid trucks apparently can still move out of the way of the tractor trailer which is why they weren't included.

Was the "not" a typo? Definitely is a safety recall...

Ok. But my comments were based on a discussion with a service manager at a Toyota dealer.

Not to split hairs, but I think the comment regarding "not being treated as a safety issue" was more process related on how Toyota is handling the recall that allows for an open resolution end date vs. whether there is a potential safety issue with sudden engine failure. I completely agree that sudden engine failure in many cases would be a safety issue. If I owned a 3rd gen, I wouldn't wait to swap the engine. Just thought I would pass it along. And was not hoping to start a s-storm.

Governmemt regulation may have forced a change but it did not force a bad one. Toyota designed and built a truck engine with bad bearings all on their own.

I was going to post this in the killer background thread but didn’t want to jack that thread. Maybe this thread can help diagnose the issue I had…

F-18’s are cute reliable old tech. I was fortunate to test new tech alongside new tech recently. Amazing experience.
However, on way home I went to overtake ‘Viper’. Upon boost I felt a shudder.
We’re hoping the in flight BSM mirrors black box recorded the event.

I could see Toyota including up to MY24 depending on when they swapped the motor part numbers

Man this V-35A debacle is the turd that just won’t flush, sorry this happening to yall. Writing was on the wall. Plenty of MY 24 failures out there.

Folks were arguing over 24 build dates, part #’s trying to guess what might or might not be be in the clear and now this seems to confirm worst fears. Damn that plant in Alabama is really is bad.

I just couldn’t stomach stroking a check for $75K and praying I dodged a bullet with wife and new infant sitting in the back. I bought the Land Cruiser 250 instead. I really miss my 2.5 gen. I’ll be back to Tundra someday, But need to wait for Toyota corporate to step in and clean house. It’s clear Toyota NA are incapable of finally putting out this dumpster fire called the V-35A on their own.

How a defect of this impact is still unresolved this many years after its discovery is totally unacceptable.

Anyone noticed they still haven’t started replacing engines yet???

I hope Toyota Japan have fired a whole lot of folks at Toyota NA over this. Hopefully, including all QA staff at the Alabama plant and the lawyers that removed the tow hooks and came after Ryan Gregg!

Who knows. It would seem by their actions, Toyota NA management may not know either.

If it's true that eventually remaining '23 and all of '24 will be recalled, it's still interesting that the hybrids are not included. It makes me think they were built somewhere else or maybe came off a different line from where the slackers in charge of cleaning debris were working.

It's been discussed before. Hybrids are not included because supposedly you won't die because your engine shuts off because you have electric motor too

It looks like another 2024 was posted on the FB group needing a new engine. Assume spun main, but doesn’t say.

I have a Hybrid and I find that theory out to lunch as you can't just " turn it on ". Over 70 MPH that thing is non existent. Engine implodes in the 75 MPH range the hybrids are just as dicked as everyone else. In saying that I have ran my VIN multiple times on my 2022 and no engine recalls surface
