I hope that all forecasts are wrong, but if they are not, or not off by a lot, please, be very careful and safe.
This Milton ain't one to play around with, and with any major hurricane to direct hit, fuel and food and water would be an issue for a while.
I hope you are all already away from where it could have been the worst, and that you will continue to enjoy your Tundra to the fullest.

    Please, be safe....

Never had experienced a tornado, much less a hurricane, but when you hear these people that are going to, "ride it out", that seems like a really bad idea to me. Do you guys down south have concrete homes or still matchstick ones??

South Florida, which consists of Monroe (The Keys) Miami-Dade and Broward all have cinder block homes. Very few olddd house exist that are wood, most are down in Key West. There are also some trailer parks still around. I have lived in S.Fla for 44 years. Riding it out is a bad idea but only when you are talking about a Cat 4/5. Cat 3 and under, if your house is built good, will have no problem. The problem is the flooding, with Cat 3 and under. I have been fortunate enough to not have been in the direct path of a Cat 4/5. I cant recall all the hurricanes but the worst that come to mind is Andrew. It hit in Homestead Fl, and at the time I was living in Hialeah, Fl. so even though it was a Cat 5, the actual storm winds didn't affect Hialeah with is roughly 40 mile from Homestead. But in Homestead it was total devastation. But it was also a lot of old homes and mobile homes.

As for further north of S.fla I believe they have been building homes stronger. Some counties have adapted the very strict Miami Dade construction codes. As for Milton, its seems its going to hit as a Cat 3 which shouldn't be an issue but once again, flooding is what makes it worse.

Thats kind of what I figured, the flooding would be the huge issue. Still though, like Ron White said, "its not that wind is blowing, its what the wind is blowing", I couldn't imagine trying to ride out a storm of that power in a house made like ours, of kindling.

Funny you mention the wind blowing. To this day and it's been years, there is a big piece of metal imbedded into a royal palm. Now a royal palms are no joke. They are strong and dense. I see it all the time when I go shopping at BJs. I will have to take a pic of it. It is impressive the power a hurricane has and the stuff it can do. It also has tornados with in them which also makes it more deadly.

Wow, looks like evacuation traffic on portions of I75 North has become a standstill. Been flowing pretty good last few hours.

Besides that unfortunate tornado in 1987, I have never heard of life threatening weather round these parts.

I had just woken up and flippin through my phone and heard the rumbling coming then it hit n heard it leave. I never felt one like that when it was so quiet to be able to hear it come and leave.

Well here's the thing. People think we get hit every year, it's not like that. For instance, here in Miami, the last major hurricane was, Andrew in 1992. We did have Irma in Cudjoe Key, which is pretty close to us but we only got some small flooding and wind, nothing to be concerned about. Before that was King in 1950. So, Miami in 74 years has gotten a direct hit twice. The reason it aways sounds like we live with hurricanes every year is the fear mongering created by the media. Just like Milton, they are saying its the worst storm in US history, that its going to rip Fl apart, yet they dont mention that it will make landfall as a 3, possibly a 2. Dont get me wrong, there is no 100% certainty when tracking Mother Nature and we must all take it very seriously but I think they over exaggerate things a bit. It's to the point where people in Miami are going and cleaning out the shelfs at stores for a storm that's 5hrs and 300 miles from Miami. Why?

Same thing with Houston, as soon as we know a named hurricane coming our way, HEB and Costco get wiped out like there's no tomorrow, I seriously see people buy TWO full carts of food, 75% which I am sure if you lose power that's toasted....
I get it, have 20% extra for the "what if" but that much extra just waste of money and taking what others may not have a chance of getting.

Yup, hoarders screw-up the system. After the Pandemic and when things settled down, we did store some essentials but you have to manage use buy dates. They have MRE's at our local Commissary and we're going that route. If things got really bad I can always clack a few pigeons with my pellet gun and use the feathers to wipe my bum!

Let's hope it doesn't get that bad for the pigeons....lol
But yea, I stock some common sense level of stuff, two kids and all that....nothing crazy.
I don't need 12 packs of 30 rolls of paper..... I mean, common sense.... but yea, in time of fear, everything is out of the window.
I hope I am just overkilling this, but Houston was hit bad a few years back and that def left a deep mark for sure....
