A "yard rat" chewed into a plastic line in my charcoal cannister assembly. Apparently you can't replace the corrugated plastic tube. You have to buy the whole assembly. I'm looking at about a grand for part and labor at the dealership. Any recommendations out there?

    LED headlamps/fogs; interior footlamps.
That is unfortunate - I too suffer from occasional rat damager yet that's another story.

Your home insurance may cover some of that cost. Do you see any possibility to repair it yourself?

I had rodent damage to a knock sensor harness, cost over $3k. Insurance covered it and said they have 2-3 claims per week due to rodent damage on cars/trucks. My recommendation is to put out rat poison and rat traps especially when it starts getting cold. I added a sonic engine rat/ mouse deterrent. I don't know if it works but I haven't had any more issues.

yeah the harnesses and jackets are bio degradable now and tasty lol, that sucks though, don't F up your homeowners for $1000 with a small claim that will probably be your Deductable anyway and give them an excuse to raise your rate...save it for a rainy day

Had a friend of mine’s new wrangler totaled because something chewed through the wiring harness. Unreal

Is this an air vent line? Can it be rigged up with new tubing and some zip ties?

dealer techs today and service departments are focused on parts replacement not fixes that may or may not be permanent, emissions would normally fall under warranty up to 80k or 100k miles...so how sure are they it was a chew and not just a defect? I really don't want my high end truck rigged in any way but hey, maybe a small shop can fix reasonably

Someone needs to sue these manufs for making shit cheaper and more attractable to rodents. To me the defect here is the cheap ass materials used. Multi-billion dollar companies always saving a buck, yet charge more for it.

Yeah I am surprised there hasn't been a class action lawsuit on this like those lawyers always on TV for Camp Lejune or Mesothelioma

it's the F@#king green initiative bullshit, you car can't emit as much emissions in a month as you do when you spill gas filling up the mower...meanwhile countries are bombing the hell out of each other and creating explosions seen from space...blowing up refineries and storage tanks...wtf

Had the exact same thing happen to me. First the charcoal canister and then a vent line that required replacing the entire gas tank. I sprayed everything with Fluid Film after getting the new tank and haven't had any issues since.

Also if you have comprehensive auto insurance they should cover it.

Insurance has a 1K deductible . Vehicle still under warranty. Paranoid to do it myself and give the dealer a reason to void the warranty. The part is nearly 600.00 if the dealership could find one. I think some good plastic tape would solve the problem .

FYI. I drank the water. Have cancer. Contacted legit lawyers. Insurance companies get their take first in my case. Lawyers next. 35% to 40%. Me...not worth the trouble.

It's a rust preventative spray based on lanolin that many of us spray on our frames. It is slimy, viscous, and stinky, any of which may give critters pause I suppose. Mine is due for another coat but I might hold off until the engine recall is done.

I was a mechanic for a truck fleet and we had this problem on the big rigs. We sprayed all the rubber and wiring with penetrating oil. No more problems.

How in the Fk do you propose a class action lawsuit against a RAT?? Like a class action against a dog dropping a deuce on your lawn.

The us is a only a tiny fraction of co2 emissions, unless you count deep sea pipelines we blow up in Northern Europe

What he said. Various rodent repellents didn’t do anything. They got my tank after I had been spraying the truck with spicy liquid. The fluid film has been effective since April.

Establish a clear perimeter around your truck, as far away as you can.

bait that perimeter along travel paths. Then go out farther and bait again.

put snap traps in areas if you can. Bait with peanut butter. Use the plastic paddle style snap traps. Not the smaller copper paddles. The snap traps will help you understand the extent of the problem.

scorched earth is the approach. Deterrents in the truck are also good, but a perimeter on the ground around the truck is much better.

I have 6 Bait stations. Multiple snap traps. Uncle Gus's Mouse away in the engine bay. A sonic/flashing disco light and have been advised to leave the hood open after my evening commute so the cold wind blows through. My tech told me not to drive into the woods or near bushes. I told him it was a Trout Truck, it goes everywhere. ;)

Dispatched about a dozen varmits last year.
