This is the best advice here.

Paint work is expensive at a shop, unless you go to MAACO but I would never really recommend that. You'd be paying for essentially what you could do with this information above. MAACO is not great and the paint fades quickly because they generally mix the clear in with the base coat like Toyota did on a lot of their white paint jobs back in the day (color code 040).

My shop uses waterbased paint through Axalta.

 

My buddy took his 2003 silver GT stang to Maaco to have the roof repainted. Looked pretty good. Paint match was good and it’s lasted 5 years now. Whole car? Probably not

 

The WiFi one I had was just a code reader so I didn’t have to disconnect Bluetooth in the last truck. Gotta have your music going haha

Crackies speedo has quit on me. Y'all got any knowledge on such or should I start an erroneous thread for it?

 

Speedo sensor still plugged in? I think its on the tcase, but not sure.

It’s interesting now that I get 90% off my gas at one particular Shell gas station and the rest from other Shells near me that I hardly get any misfires anymore.

Now it’s just the long trips driving around that it happens, but only mildly.

 

Just a note to say: You maybe seen how my shit turned out with the Sports Grille recently. That was purely done with AutomotiveTouchup rattle cans, they sent me base coat and clear. You don’t need 2K clear!

Tape the windshield/rear window trim, remove the HSML, and either tape to the door splits or the rack rails.

Random orbit/DA sand the roof thru the clearcoat, into the base coat, it’s ok if you hit metal in a few places as long as clearcoat is gone. I’d personally take it to bare metal.

Clean the panel, use a paint prep spray (wax and grease remover).

Hit it with self-etch primer, two light coats, one medium, one heavy unless instructions say otherwise, always read label for that info and reco at window info.

Allow to fully cure per directions.

Scudf sand with 400 or 600, fully, wash panel. Paint prep spray again.

Base coat next, 3-4 light coats, medium coat, assess, consider another medium or heavier coat. Observe their info on recoat AND any info on clear topcoat, the window was different with mine for add’l base coats and the clear coat.

Clearcoat is next, light, light, light, medium, heavier.

It’s not impossible. You can fix runs after if you have any with wet sand and polish. The clear in my case melted two base coat runs to being invisible. I ended up with one clear run but it laid down quite a bit to the point it’s tough to see.

You DO NOT need 2K clear or the lung risks associated with it.

I had a Ninja 500 way back when. Just put in a standing offer on a Sertao, might hear back in the spring on that.
The ninja 400's sound like a better option & the new/used price difference is negligible.

 

Havent decided if i'm gonna get a ktm rc390 (old enough to not have ABS) or a SSR buccaneer 250.

i bet i could race that ssr at full tilt all day long without ever hitting 'straight to jail' speeds. Just not sure how much abuse those yamaha virago 250 engines can handle.

 

So, whats gonna happen if i plug my battery charger into the inverter thats powered by the battery? Could i top off a 75% battery before cutoff, or would it settle at 87% & just make heat?

sidenote: i've officially been back in pasadena tx long enough to want 12.5:1 compression, an e85 tune, and dirtcar cams. Open fenderwell headers, fuck it.

 

You’re going to use the charger in place of the battery or just charge the battery while it’s under inverter load and the load of an AC appliance?

1. The inverter needs to handle the higher voltage of charging
2. There’s the potential for the battery overheating but if it’s a small load, probably not.

 

Its a 7A charger.

 

Looks like the OE bumper and hubcaps and a later year with the ambulance doors so at least a 75 and and maybe front discs if a 76 and power steering if a 79?! Jackpot.

 

I watched that video the other day. Funny, I have that same fridge. I turn mine on to keep 4 Ultras cold while playing games. Shut it off before bed. The dudes math is fucked a little, and he doesn't take into account using it it a car where electricity is basically free.

 

Went on a little Merus adventure Saturday with coworkers.

Pretty good time. We were only down there about 4 hours, but it was enough to know stay off the black until I get some better trail mates down there with better rigs and a spotter.

The heeps were mostly stock, but handled the trails well. They bottomed out on quite a few humps, I only got the skids once. They were all pretty impressed with Ironman, even more so when they saw the 300k mile sticker.

Definitely looking forward to Merustober in 11 days. We may tackle all the trails, or we may get drunk and yell at coyotes. Who knows. Anyways, invite is always open if anyone ever swings through the panhandle. We can go play in the dirt.

I used to own an RC390. I thought all of them came with ABS?..maybe the CUP series bike didn’t? I think you can also disable the ABS as well? Anyhow, as much as i liked the looks of the bike, it just wasn’t for me. The bike never gave me goosebumps or good feelings when riding it. The made in India engine just felt uninspiring to me. I ended up selling it withe around 500 miles on the odo. I MUCH prefer riding KTM adventures bikes or my vintage Vespas.

 

Great post and pics. Them Jeep guys have never seen 300k miles and all original drivetrain and body, they usually have to replace damn near everything between mile 1 and 150k. At least the aftermarket support is strong which gives you a lot of options to build.
