This, over on the TW bike thread, gave enough for me to not want to look. Several of us have asked if we can help him, or send money. Rather it went to him for allocation than a charity that siphon their chunk off the top.

    :D

Little over 2 years. My bro needed a commuter car, dad wanted a cap for the truck. Bro gave dad his '05 Tundra with a cap, dad gave him his old Camry, I got my truck back and dad got my Corolla.

The car barely got used with us. The Best Gen will be my hunting/fishing/chore truck, the 3rd Gen will be the family hauler/road tripper/tow vehicle.

Thank you; it would be a difficult area of instruction to navigate... The problems w/collectiong $$ for teaching ANYTHING weapons related are multi-faceted.

Liability in general is enormous... 1mil $$ insurance policies are no longer enough and the cost of those policies are skyrocketing (especially to do it as an individual).

There is so much dictation from the few insurance companies that will provide policies for this type of instruction, that you are almost handcuffed into a specific narrative; which is why a lot of firearms instructors are very cookie cutter in their lesson plans... This forces them to develop gimmicky 'trademarks' or tactics, if you will, to stand out amongst the others. 99% of those gimmicks are just that and do nothing to enhance the learning experience of the student.

If I were to operate outside of the scope of the policy and submitted lesson plans, then I could potentially expose myself to unprotected liability. I can't ignore or sugar coat responses to someone's legitimate question(s)... that's not who I am. I've watched very competent and professional instructors dance around a legitimate question, not because they lacked the skill, experience or knowledge; but rather because their insurance would not allow the proper response to be part of the lesson. It's really a vicious cycle that harms the entire industry and prevents people from getting the information they are seeking and in my opinion have a right to receive an honest answer about...

You can skirt some of that by providing training to LEO agencies (as there are work arounds that allow an instructor to pass SOME of the liability back to the agency), but that's a bit on the technical/legal side and not really who I'd be interested in training. I think we have a shit ton of folks that have either no access to competent training, have received some really piss poor training, or just simply new to gun ownership folks that would benefit from learning how to build proper foundation, where to invest their time and money, and how to do less 'wrong'.

I know I keep bringing up efficiency, but here's another very important reason I lean on that word and it's my go to way of verifying I'm doing things right. I learned this in both tactics and also in dog training... It's not the person who does the MOST right, it's the person who does the LEAST amount of things wrong that is the most successful or is most efficient in training or deployment.... The same is true for much of life.

Creating an LLC helps take some of that liability off your shoulders (as an individual), but not all of it.

I guess when it comes to this stuff I'm like Sean is w/detailing... I'm not going to half ass it, and therefore I'd have points and times where I've exposed myself (and more importantly my family) to unprotected liability.

OR is currently experiencing issues trying to implement a bill that was passed by voters a couple of years ago. Fortunately, both laws that they attempted to be put into the books got nixed by the State Supreme Court (whose actually done a good job and managing that crap and doing their job properly)... Point being, insurance companies and such are also trying to navigate how to stay 'within the laws of the states they service' and many are more restrictive in terms of what is permitted out of anticipation of what's to come.

Sometimes it's just easier to help out some friends here and there in a non-professional setting and make a difference for at least for a few people...

Meh maybe be $25 each way when going to amd from my rotation. I don't use my personal vehicle as a daily commuter.
