Went to look at a nice black 2014 SR5 yesterday and noticed, despite being a one owner TX only truck, it had rust behind the bed liner in the corners.

I’ve read a lot on bed rust for gen 2, but is 2.5 still having issues? Was this a fluke? Maybe I’m lucky but my ‘05 Tacoma never had rust issues so I'm new to this issue.

I owned two Gen2 Tundras that were plagued with the bed rot issue. I caught the first one within the corrosion warranty period so Toyota covered it. I bought the second being aware of the condition.

I have been hunting around the Gen2.5 section here and am not finding any reference to this issue. Did Toyota correct it for 2014?

Stock, with a few cosmetic mods.
Is that rust from beneath towards to cab or the rear? I’ll have to shimmy under my ‘21. Thanks.

Mine happened in the rear first, then started popping up front. I've seen photos of it coming through between the fender wells also.

Toyota has rust problems in weld seams as well.

Coated with Noxudol 1600 while truck was brand new. Few years later:

Rusted from inside the seam. It is not a trapped water, Noxudol evacuates water away from metal.

Mine looked fine underneath and but had a small brown spot coming through the bedliner and when you pushed on it it was already spongy behind the wheel well in the bed

Any particular areas to hit for protection under the bed? Like FF, I use Amsoil HD but same concept.

Scrape the foam seam sealer off and use better stuff before it rots i guess the foam stuff traps water and moister and thats what caused the bed to rot

That is exactly what both of my Gen2's looked like.

I was under truck today. Started with blown rear shock removal and noticed some new rusty spots. Found one foam sealer cracked. Don't know if it 's bed torn apart (I offroad with Leer cap and 100 lbs rack/canoe) or just the sealer.

Well, when the bed is done, I'll make a camper =)
