Hey all, new to the forum but long time 20+ year Toyota owner and long time member of TacomaWorld and FJCruiser forums frequent poster.

Family is getting bigger, I mean, no more kids but the kids I have keep getting bigger and wanting more space. I think the new Tacoma rear seat actually got smaller recently, so enter the Tundra crew cab....but wait, there's an engine failure o_O

Does that make it the perfect time to buy a Tundra with an engine recall?? I've got 2 local dealers that have excellent service departments, for what it's worth.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts!

There may be enough incentives now on new on-the-lot Tundras to make it not worth going used. Worth checking at least.

I also have a great service department at my dealership, so the whole engine fiasco doesn't really worry me all that much.

I also moved up from a Tacoma due to size and don't regret it at all.

I'd have to compare interest rates and prices...additional cost of going new new might not be much.

I am sure a good deal could be had on a 22 that is waiting on a new engine but still running currently. A low mileage one with the recall pending might be a good deal.

Went to a dealer yesterday to pick up some stuff, the lot was chock a block full of "new" Tundras. Everything from stripper deluxe to full out 1794s, take your pick, almost any color. Again I was accosted about trading mine in and all the good deals to be had and how mine was worth a lot. If you are serious about a third gen, there should be tons of great deals out there, pennies on the dollar.

Definitely a great time and I would definitely look for used. I just found an unbelievable deal for my brother in law on a ‘24 SR5 (with all the options, original MSRP was 64k) with 12k miles. I couldn’t believe the price. Shop around as there are deals out there.

Find a certified pre owned and call it a day. Built in extended warranty.

What about a high mileage 2022? Only 3 or so year old body that's going to be getting a new engine, but the mileage has the "KBB Retail" value knocked down, right?

Just thinking about the drivetrain and mating up and high mileage transmission etc.. to a new motor. But with a good extended warranty, that could be a good savings.

    Good point.

And then, 30 seconds later, I'm still debating an 05-06 Double Cab instead
