Spark Plugs/Oil Change or wait for new engine?

Hey,

I've got a perfect no problems 6/22 build at 41,000 miles with extended 7/125k warranty. I have been notified that I will get a new engine. I'm wondering if I should do the 40K spark plugs now with another 5Kish oil change or wait for the new engine.

Well, the manual says you void the emissions warranty if you dont. So its up to you if you want to roll the dice on that. You could buy the spark plugs at the dealer and then just not do it. At least you would have a record of the purchase

 

This is the correct answer.

 

You get a new engine when your engine fails. They’re not going to replace engines just because.

 

They are if your in the recall.

That's surprising. Used to be 100k for the iridium on the 5.7.

 

Forced induction means high pressure, high heat, high wear on the plugs, so the interval is shorter on just about every boosted vehicle I’ve looked in to.

To the OP - I would just do the maintenance. I don’t see any reason not to do it. You will be getting a new engine… at some point… in the future… be that near or distant… I don’t recall hearing of a single appointment being scheduled to complete the recall yet, so when that will happen is a big uncertainty.

IMO, maintenance is to help the vehicle function well in the future, and to function exceptionally well in the present. I hate driving around in a poorly kept jalopy even if I know it’s cheap or replaceable; I don’t mind driving around in a well kept jalopy because if it fails, I know it wasn’t because I failed. But that’s my opinion.

I'm doing it. Beaverton, OR Toyota price $490.00 I could buy my own Densos and with my normal shop it would have been the same price. If my normal shop had supplied the spark plugs it would have been even more!

I'm doing this with my prepaid six service plan of oil changes/tire rotations which cost me $90 each which is pretty good.
Doing this with the fuel line recall. Free loaner vehicle.
