Hey everybody, long time no see.

I WILL be in attendance for the meetup!

Looks like everybody will start getting into town on the 17th?
Need to go back and read from about page 2 on

I need to source a fire extinguisher, and decide if I want to use the baofeng radio I have or get a vehicle mounted gmrs (rugged radios or midland micro mobile?)

I'd get a high powered vehicle mounted ham before getting a high powered GMRS, unless you're planning on doing GMRS stuff outside of this event. Newer Baofengs can't access GMRS channels, and you'll probably get a lot of cross-traffic on GMRS without privacy codes versus a random simplex frequency on VHF.

Thanks Des. Ham is some interesting stuff to me, but damn I have too many interests as it is. I could be mistaken but I think MERUS uses and requires guests to use GMRS.

I have no need for a radio outside of this event. Looks like my pre-regulatory crackdown Baofeng is the way to go:thumbsup:

I like the midland GMRS. Also I think the handheld midlands from Best Buy would qualify as well.

Gotcha, if they require GMRS then no harm in one, but I'm sure your pre-crackdown Baofeng will work well enough for this. GMRS license is super easy to get (doesn't make Baofeng GMRS use legal though, not that you'll get popped)

I have a hard-mounted Midland MXT-400 with a truck antenna and it works way better than my Baofeng with a truck antenna for sure. But the MXT is not as convenient when wheeling with post-crackdown Baofengs. Whenever I go to AZ, I can cover some good distance on the MXT when I hit a repeater.

For anyone who's checked out the map at merus, I'm gonna try to check out the campsites. I like 600, 700, or 800.

I'll tell you what, that LSD makes a hell of a difference. Casey kept up with us unlifted and on lady tires, while I was lifted on good tires. You on 5100s with decent tires and an LSD will do better than me. You leaving the camper on?

200’s and 300’s are elevated, but wind might be killer with no trees

Yup. Plus they're easy to get to so the basics will be there. Are you gonna be able to make it or still having the friend b-day?

I just realized I’m ill equipped for this truck haha. Got a ton of misc gear, but I really should get a spare axle and full size spare. Idk how this worked itself out, but I have two full sized spare tires, but no wheel since my factory spare is the 16” steelie LOL

They have shitters at the top of the canyon. I'm gonna bring my shifter tent and bucket for my gf no matter what, so you can use mine. We can use the showers at my house too. Merus is only about 30-45 minutes from my house so I wouldn't worry too much about amenities. Plus there's a Walmart and United about 5 minutes from my house so we can stock up there. They don't sell liquor at grocery stores here but the liquor store is right next to my house so don't worry about that.

Yeah, parts of TX are dry and semi-dry. I'm in a semi dry-county, where they sell beer and wine in stores, but not liquor, and no liquor stores allowed in my town, and liquor can only be sold in bars. It's so stupid.

We have that here, mainly on the reservations up north. I asked one time not knowing I was in a dry res, and I felt like I offended them
