What kind of camper do you have???

We’ve always camped in canvas wall tents of various sizes but we lost them in a garage fire. For the past 20 years I’ve used this Cabelas Alaknak 12’x12’. It’s been base camp for many hunts and I’ll probably keep it til I die. If it’s just me and my son, we’ll take it.

Since we’re both retired my wife wants to make some road trips, we bought our first trailer. It’s a 23 Coachman 20’, made by Forest River, not the best quality but we went the inexpensive route to see if we’ll use it that much. She likes it and has plans to take the grandkids to the mountains. I call it a porta-potty on wheels.

 

Found a rotted floor in our a few weeks back and decided to pull up the floor to see the damage. Basically 6' back from the nose is rotted. Weighing options now. At least I know I need to do a better check when looking at these things. This was after my “exploratory”cut.

Another trip in the Casita, this time spent a week in Southwest Colorado to do some fly fishing.

First trip report with the shocker hitch, it made a huge difference, was a pricey for a hitch, but I'll buy it again, it transform the towing experience.

I am curious as well. Interested in this but does not seem to work with a WDH.

 

I got on their site, Shocker Hitch Air - Ride Towing Products, and asked in their live chat.

Q: Does a shocker bump hitch take the place of a WDH?
A: "For a WDS system the bumper hitch would not be the solution in this situation, our air equalizer would be the correct item to go with a WDS systems. We do offer both on our website as well as sway tab bars.

Like what I have plus I've added underneath a sturdy plastic bag from Joe Patti's seafood market in Pensacola. Helps to rinse the shrimp smell out to keep the coons from raising and lowering your tongue when you're sleeping.

I found my cover wasn't waterproof. It is now with the faint aroma of the seashore if I remove the covers.

 

First weekend with the new camper

Pulled it down to southwest Washington for a few days with the kids before school starts.

2022 Flagstaff MicroLite 25BRDS.

 

"Long time listener" first time poster. Just purchased my first Tundra last month - 2018 SR5 4x4. Previously had a GX470 (wife has a GX460). Just pulled my Mantis 1,000 miles r/t over the Labor Day weekend and barely noticed it was behind me.

Just picked up this 2024 2509s. 90 mile drive home. Rode nicely. No WDH in pic, nor did I have one on the drive home. Have since ordered and installed the equalizer 4pt WDH. First trip scheduled for 10/18! can’t wait.

Installed boost auto tow mirrors and telling myself I need them. Though I want to take them off so badly. It just feels awkward with the diff pass side view. I’m wondering if the change alone will be more of a down side than the potential upside from additional viewing.

 

Congrats on the purchase! I have the MicroLite 25BRDS (a couple posts up from yours). It is the same trailer as the MiniLite 2509S, just different decals. Excellent trailer and I hope you love it as much as we love ours.

I also went with the BAP mirrors. They absolutely do take some getting used to, as they are so big compared to the factory mirrors. I actually swap mine back to the stock mirrors during the off season. We generally don't camp from November until May or June, so for those months, I prefer the smaller mirrors. Once the initial install and wiring is done, it only takes 20 minutes or so to swap them out, so I do that after our last camping trip of the year, and put the BAP mirrors back on in the spring.

Do you? I thought about doing that. I'm starting to like the look of the mirrors from every view other than being in the drivers seat... the one that matters most. I just wrapped them last night to match my truck, black.
I've swapped them on and off before just because I didn't like driving around with them on without towing. I have a car trailer that the stock mirrors work just fine with and with these its seems awkward. I've convinced myself that I just need to get used to it... hence why I'm driving around with these huge tow mirrors and no trailer/camper daily. I wired them up to have the DRL work with the Moritmoto headlights and the backup light comes on with a separate switch wired to existing rear mount lights.

I just hate the passenger side view of the top glass. I always feel like I'm searching just to look through the mirror, if that make sense. I find myself using the smaller lower portion most of the time.
I find that the stock mirrors are 9/10 even with the trailer being 99" wide but the main issue is just that I can't see behind the trailer... like I can with the tow mirrors. This rant could go on and on but I'll stop here. We are excited for the first trip and I'm cautiously optimistic about the tow mirrors

 

I'm not sure I could function without my BAP mirrors, even when not towing. Such good visibility.

 

Give the mirrors a little bit more time and you'll likely get used to them. When I'm not using them, I do miss the lower, convex portion as it offers such good visibility. What I don't like about them is that the physical size of the blocks the forward view, so you have to lean a bit forward at times. That and that there is no auto dimming or puddle lights (useful in the dark days of winter). 1st world problem.

 

I hope to feel this way one day... I miss the puddle lights and the amber turn signal in my OEM mirrors. They're visible to others but not overly bright for me when driving at night. These are very bright.

Agree that the sheer size is a con... and the puddle lights being gone is a huge bummer... I considered retrofitting an LED into the bottom of the mirror and wiring in as the same puddle light, but have yet to go there.
I can't say I notice the non-auto dim glass that much. The front windows being tinted almost makes up for it...kind of.

 

FWIW I didn't like my BAP mirrors much at first either. Now I do, and a bit more each year. This is the first year that I almost left them on. Maybe next year I will!

 

I didn't have puddle lights or turn signals in my stock mirrors so I'm ahead with these ones.

I considered it but couldn't find any that retained memory or power fold.

I have not tried the OEM tow mirrors. Like you, I wanted to keep my power fold, heating, etc. That was the big pull with Boost. I'm super happy with my choice.

 

I think some guys on here have said the OEM tow mirrors aren't all that good for towing.
