    Hey Everyone.
After totaling my Gen 1 with 500K miles on the original Engine and original transmission. I am in the Market for a New to Me Gen 2 Tundra.
After searching and reading about gas mileage. MPG seems to really be rough for these trucks. I'm reading 9-13 MPG, is this really true?
I believe they are the 5.7L Eningines but honestly, seems like the MPG isn't good for anybody the Gen 2 V8. Can someone confirm or deny this information?
This is making me want to look at other Brands if this mileage is correct.

    A stock 5.7 gets about 15mpg.

There are loads of variables. Lots of those numbers you see will be after heavier tires, lifts, and all manner of other things that drop the original MPGs. How you drive will also have a huge impact. Do you keep your trucks stock or do you lift them and put huge mud tires on them?

Then you'll get better than what you read so long as you're not a lead foot.

A better question is this: What MPG do you need in order to be happy?

    I've owned 2 5.7L V8 tundras and now a 5.7L V8 sequoia. All of them I typically saw between 15-17. Only the 2nd tundra saw 12 and 13 after because I had a 6" lift with 35.5" heavy KO2's on it.
I typically drive interstate 25 miles to work. Not a whole lot of city driving and/or towing. Simple driving, but not babying it to peak my mileage meter. A LOT depends on variables like that
The way I see/saw it....I'd rather spend a little more money on gas than fight with repairs and unreliability.

My '08 has averaged about 13mpg over the years combo city/hwy... If I was driving hwy and kept it under 65ish about 15mpg

My '21 is seeing better mileage (which is kinda weird), but it'll generally get between 14.5-16mpg combo city/hwy... and on a short road trip (200 miles or so) keeping it about 65 will net 17mpg... However, if I'm playing around and having fun it with... enjoying the exhaust notes, maybe some tow/haul or beast mode mixed in it'll see about 12-12.5...

The above numbers are hand calculated not using the lie-o-meter

I never got better than 15 with my previous 1st gen.

I don't think I ever said I miss my 1st gen. Once in a 2nd gen I knew this was a much better truck.

12-13 here with 34’s and bumpers. It’s crap but at least the truck will last.

I didn't buy my 19 PRO for fuel economy, but of course it was a concern. Purchased new in 2019, run stock size tires, no lift, only +1.5 inch shackles out back. I drive like an old man because that's what I am, never in a hurry. I have seen where so many get really poor gas mileage, but I swear my truck gets a good average of between 17-19 all the time unless I'm towing the boat of course. There are many times that I see 20+ mpg. Believe it or not, a lot of this comes from "tire pressure", rolling resistance. Too many run their tires under inflated, thus lower mpg's.

I am quite content with the mpg's my truck gets. It's a truck, one that I can depend on to work for me anytime, all the time.

That's great information...I just find it odd that even dealers selling used vehicles are indicating 9 in city 13 on highway.
I do understand a lot is determined by driving habits and honestly my 2000. 4.7 wasn't all that good.
Thank you for your input and information. That helps me quite a bit.

During the summer I get about 15.5 overall on my 2007, during winter that drops to about 13. if I am going to use the 4wd then less than that. I just got 18.3 on the highway yesterday with cruise set to 65. I'm no lead foot, but I'll add if you are overly concerned about mileage then it's probably not the vehicle for you. No offense intended. All stock with 20" Cooper 265's. You can't put a price on the 5.7's reliability. I'm at 245K now, and it runs like a top. I wish my wife would dump her Enclave so we could get a used Land Cruiser.

Just got back from a 7K mile trip out west and back to VA. Mines a bone stock '21 CM with (now) 30k miles. I averaged over 17 mpg for the trip. 2-4 passengers, several hundred pounds of gear, D-back bed cover. Had it up to 19 mpg for a part of the run eastbound (downwind on a US highway, so 65-70 mph) and did a 20 mpg run down from Salmon ID to Twin. Did about 35 miles in 4H and S mode on some steep mountain dirt roads, mostly for stability and compression braking to all four wheels. In west Texas going westbound into the wind, I ran it up to 80+ and it started drinking heavily, so backed off to 75. Seems to really like around 72-76 mph for Interstate cruising and about 1900 rpm. Gas prices on the trip ranged from $3.59 to $2.99/gal. Didn't buy it for the mpgs, bought it because its fun and comfortable to drive and ride, hauls a good load, and if the situation requires, I can floor it at 75 mph and it will snap your head back. But I was still overjoyed with the economy.

I tracked my mileage every year, so four cycles before I sold my truck. Over an average year I got around 13.xmpg. That's 80/20 highway/city on the week and mostly city on the weekend. Plus towing a 4k lb trailer around 2,000 miles a year that dropped me to 9-10mpg. I don't think I ever cracked 19mpg on a long highway run (100 miles, no significant elevation gain, 60-70mph speed limit).

When I got larger tires and added some gear (including a Diamondback tonneau) everything dropped by 1mpg. My region has a lot of hills, so city driving is 9-10 and highway is 15-16 generally speaking.

Buy a Gen 2.5 and be happy...just don't look at the MPGs.

Just got a 18 TRD to replace my 13 w/ 208,000 miles. My 18 I got with 11,200 miles on it a couple of months ago. I drive some highway some city. Right now averaging around 700 miles a week. I drive fairly easy. Easy take offs at lights and usually never over 75 on the hwy. My 13 never averaged above 15.5 but my 18 averages around 17.5 I have no reason why but I like it.

My '08 was consistently 12.5 to 13.7 (when I baby it), but my '21 is consistently 15.5-16.5 :notsure:

My all stock 2020 CM got about 15 with me driving slightly aggressively. I put 35s on it (no lift, all stock otherwise) and I get 11 MPG now.

Sure, you could buy certain other trucks and get 20, but the same savings you’ll see on fuel will be spent on ridiculous repairs instead.

Me personally, I’d rather pay extra for the fuel and have a pretty predictably reliable truck to get around in. That reliability, when on a trip or remote in the mountains, is more important to me than the extra $600-700 a year I spend on fuel compared to a 20 MPG rig.

Around 13.8 with 275s, goes down to low 13s with 285 tires. Probably around 14ish on the highway.

Just made 17.9 on a quick trip with plenty of hills. I imagine on longer, flatter trips, it would possibly hit 19-20. Just interesting.

OK kiddies. Let me show you how it's done. Only drive downhill, with a tailwind, so slow that you are for a brief time considered public enemy #1 and get the wife to put one leg out the door and help you get started...

In reality this was after about 10 miles after we left town. The first mile was 35 MPH and four traffic lights. Then 4 miles of 45 and the remaining at 55. Lie-O- Meter is usually+- .5 MPG when compared to pencil whipping it.PXL_20231127_183700225.jpg

I average 16.5 on my 2012 stock. My driving is probably 70/30 hwy/city.

I averaged 12.9 MPG over 5 years, mostly short suburb trips. Bed liner, Leer cap, roof rack, steel half bumper w/ winch, 10GA steel skid plates all the way to transfer case, 33" LT AT tires, long warm ups in winter. On highway it is pretty economical for my taste, I get 16-17 cruising around 65-70.

Wife managed to get 21.9 MPG on highway in her stock TRD PRO Sequoia, w/ 3 adults and 3 kids inside and heavy Yakima EXO hitch system.
