Back at A&M today with Magnus. They're getting more blood testing done (getting a baseline before Chemo treatment begins) and a physical by an oncologist.

My boy is real anxious - doesn't help he's deaf :(

    The boys being boys;

    Riva and rufus.jpg

We are Dog sitting/training our sons "Newest edition".

Rufus was a stray dumped and he needs a little TLC to get him ready for full time

    family life .

Connie quietly "Volunteered " us for the duty so for the next couple of weeks he will shadow Riva' and his methods...Time will tell BUT he has

already stopped the jumping so that helps with the 5 year old granddaughter ....

went to a waterfowl event over the weekend. She’s never hunted but she did some retrieving of decoy ducks that were both hand thrown and also launched out of a slingshot. It was in a swampy area so she got pretty nasty but she had fun, we then walked over to the dock jump and paid for a few jumps to clean her off lol. She ended up jumping 11ft, which we feel was pretty good considering she’s 11yrs old and had ACL surgery. We did it just for fun, she enjoyed it.

I know this Q was for snoop, but I'd be happy to chime in here and help you w/this...

    Let's start w/just a few questions:

    Breed?

    Age?

How is the dog w/handling pressure? (IE>> indifferent to it, somewhat neutral, very submissive, etc..)

What motivates your dog?? (Play, food, toys, affection, freedom, etc..)

What learning systems have you used for other behaviors that was successful? (Fixing this behavior is very similar to unwanted biting/mouthing, so I'm curious if you've fixed any other undesired behaviors and if so what techniques did you use??)

Is this a behavior that you are okay w/at times, but just want to be able to turn it off when it's undesired... or do you prefer for the dog to NEVER jump up on anyone??

What specific techniques (just describe in brief detail) what you've tried off of the youtube that hasn't worked??? There's always more than one path to success

I've always walked into them when jumping up and step on back toes. They learn not to jump rather quickly.

Mutts, predominantly Great Pyrenees and Lab, they are very smart.

    4
both are nervous with loud sounds, sound barrier (they do that around here) not so much on thunder, one gets nervous as weather system comes in.
YES. One likes toys more, the other it's food.
Positive reinforcement. I've picked up a lot from that guy on youtube. https://www.youtube.com/@willathertoncaninetraining
Never, we are concerned about having someone house sit for us because of it. They are very energetic and get excited when we have visitors.
One of them is very responsive to positive reinforcement. That's Honey, she's got more lab in her. She's very good about obeying commands. Sugar is more then Great Pyrenees and more independent, she responds to commands but only if she wants to, when she wants to. And when she has her toy she's in command.

I'm heading to bed in a few minutes, but I'll PM you later if that's okay (just don't want to clutter up the thread w/training stuff) and offer some suggestions/techniques for you to work through and try out...

With treats and my paw in his face...

He is still quite a pup and thinks wagging his tail & jumping brings positive results....not with me...1st time he went too jump up at Momma, he

heard one "Oy" out of me ( my Stop word , care of our trainer , yes parents need training too o_O :p ) and quickly realized there would be

consequences for bad behavior.. My hand touches his head and covers his eyes and he quickly "Parks it"...Soft touch, nothing dramatic as I do not

know his history.. I have also slowly corrected the submissive "Roll-Over" when approached, That one bothers me as it is usually defensive from

being hit :( . loving and quietly talking have changed Rufus into someone that can now enjoy life with my son's family ..

This morning after the boys & I did our "Pee walk" the approach towards my wife was totally different.... you could actually sense he already

knew Momma would be rewarding him with a treat... hips & tail were busy BUT he stayed on all 4'.....:fingerscrossed:

We have had him since Saturday evening and he has quickly learned to Mirror our Pup...behavior leads to treats and head pats ..

Basic commands have been taught and his walking has greatly improved on leash, he now "Leaves" food items when Connie instructs & finds he

    gets more for this !!!

Don't give up on them, they don't you!

One thing I picked up on that https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6z0E8nSfCvelwA3bon_phg Will Alherton channel is feeding time is the best opertunity of training them. I got my girls sitting put and staying as a present their food (like the good waiter I am). I but I make them both sit and stay as I put the food down and give them a "go eat" command.
We've gotten really regimented with it, even making them eat out of only their bowls and it works great.

Agreed, Will Atherton is our "Go-Too" for "Video" teaching plus our trainer at our vet...has been great also...

Both dogs are food driven BUT poor Rufus still try's to fight for every scrap....He has gotten better as we continue with his training BUT the Puppy

stills comes out at times..... I just keep reminding myself I raised two kids, why should teenage dogs be different !!!!
