Why not just take the fob off the ring? It's what I do with something like this. https://keyring.com/brass-pull-apart-keychain-ball-bearing-release/

Can you get this to work without the Tundra alarm going off? I can't seen to find a way to unlock with the valet key without the alarm going off. While I am able to put the key in the cab and unlock with the mechanical valet key, the alarm is not awesome. The manual says that if I lock with the mechanical key, the alarm doesn't set, but I can't get that to work right.

My deal is surfing, so I don't want the FOB with me in the water.

I lock the doors, and toss the keys in the truck bed and shut/lock it. Then unlock it with my phone to get back in when I’m done.

You would still have to shut the fob off though to prevent the key from s being a signal (correct?).

    Anyone have experience with this?

It’s been 6 days since I traded my f150 in for a tundra and there’s already been about 10 instances where I wish it had a keyless entry pad.

I usually use the app so it’s not an issue but I just tried it and the alarm didn’t go off. Maybe if I leave for a bit it would.

the other thing I notice is that when turning off the fob the truck is trying to lock and probably arming the alarm. Try turning off the fob with the door open then press the unlock inside the door, close the door and lock it with the key. This seems to lock the car without arming anything

This would seem to me the best way to accomplish what the original poster is trying to do. However, for me personally, I don't think it is something I would want to do in that application. I don't see myself relying on an app, on a so-called "smart phone" to get back into my truck after a long day. The FOB is not that large, certainly smaller than a phone. It would seem (to me) there certainly could be a pocket in the riding gear or pack, that the FOB could be zipped into. Not a criticism, just my thoughts on it. I find Shutting the FOB off can be convenient if my wife would like to leave her purse in the vehicle if we are together, and doing an activity where she would rather not carry her purse. We shut her FOB off, (We received two at purchase of the truck:)) and put the purse out of sight.

My fear would be losing the fob on a trail or something. With your phone in your pocket and linked to your wireless eat bugs, you would notice it missing rather quickly when your music stopped. But if your fob slipped out of your pocket, you might not notice till your done with your adventure. I had some athletic type shorts that had a small zippered pocket at the back waistband. I used to put just my keyless fob in there and locked the keys in my truck. (Non smart key)

People should really have one of these to keep their keys in at home anyway if their vehicle has proximity unlock.

Ohhh, that is something to check. The alarm arms after 30 seconds. I can see it in the area by the map lights. I have not tried to do it with the door open. I have one of those bags that blocks the signal, but I've not tried turning it off with the door open. I'm on a trip and want to try this when I get home. I do think FOB proximity has something to do with the alarm.

    I appreciate the testing.

Just tried turning the remote off, worked great!. Then take the valet key with you to get back into the truck, don't have to rely on the phone. I do open water swims and hate putting my phob in my dry bag. Just don't trust it. I'm stoked about this option, seems it will work perfect. Plus for bike rides I don't have to put the phob in a my jersey pocket anymore, just the small valet key.

    fanny packs made a mea
Fanny packs have made a pretty mean come back. They just call them waist/belt bags now.

And a lot of people do keep guns in them. Especially criminals. Easy to access the gun and easy to toss the pack off if police show up. I think that’s what started the trend.

I can't get this to work at all. As soon as I use the mechanical key, I see the light for the alarm start to flash. 30 seconds later, it is sold and armed.
What year is your Tundra? I have a 24 Limited, maybe that is it?

Car off, front door open. Power off key FOB (hold lock, press unlock twice). The car locks and the FOB flashes to show off. Hit unlock, close the door and lock with the mechanical key. Wait 30 seconds+ and the alarm is active. I tried with FOB on and off. Close and far. Am I doing something wrong?

The manual clearly states that using the mechanical key to lock should not set the alarm. Maybe this is something I should take up with the dealer.
Page 425 of short manual and page 541 of full version based on latest PDFs.

    ■Alarm
Using the mechanical key to lock
the doors will not set the alarm system.
If a door is unlocked using the
mechanical key when the alarm system
is set, the alarm may be triggered.

I have 2023 and everything you said sounds exactly like what I did. What happens if you just lock the door with the key and keep the fob on with you, just to test. If the alarm still turns on in that scenario then it is probably something to ask a dealer because in that case you aren’t possibly arming the alarm while turning the fob off

Just tested it again with my '22 SR5. Unlocked the truck, opened the drivers door, turned the fob off (hold lock, press unlock twice, blinks 4 times), put the fob in the truck, closed the door, locked the door with the valet key. Then unlocked the truck with the valet key. No alarm. Turned the fob back on, closed the door, locked the truck with the fob, no alarm.

Maybe it is a '24 problem or my specific truck problem. I tried all combinations of locking and FOB on/off that I could think of. Right away I can see the alarm light flashing and at 30 seconds, it goes solid so I get the alarm when I unlock.

    Thank you for testing.

Did you unlock it right away or wait for over 30 seconds? If I unlock mine right away, no alarm, but after 30 seconds alarm is on and door opening trigger it.
