2006 Tundra 4.7 SR5 - Coolant Temp Sender Gauge

Hey guys. Trying to figure out why the coolant temp gauge on the cluster isn't working. OBD reader says temps are 86-88 °C when driver, little more when towing, within spec. Tired of hooking the reader up, want to fix problem.

Took cluster apart and tried tapping the gauge and taking needle on and off, thought maybe it was stuck. Did nothing.

Next guess is the sender gauge. Lots of part numbers for it online. Anyone know which is correct below?

Spoke with a parts guy at local dealership, he said the part number is the 89422-06010. Said no one has one in the twin cities area.

 

Just special order it from the dealer, they normal have in within 24hrs

He has a 2006, the image you posted applies to 2000-2004. The VVTi engines aren't quite the same with ECT. There's one sensor in 2005-2006 and it's p/n 8942206010. It also has a washer or gasket of some sort showing 9043012005.

@BubbaW corrected me on this one bitd, long before I realized my '06 engine was pretty significantly different than the pre-VVTi stuff, and I appreciate it.

Dang, yeah I never realized that the VVTi trucks were different in regards to the sensors, I'll edit my previous post.

 

It's not just you, it was me too. I'm thankful @BubbaW stepped in and set me straight on that and a number of other things. He's a valuable resource.

 

Has anyone heard anything from him lately? Seems like it's been a while. He is the wiring diagram master it seems like.

 

He is definitely the guru on electrics, and better diagnostician than I. Not sure, hope he's alright, I feel like someone said he went to TS, but maybe I'm crazy. He's sorely missed.
