Interesting! Well maybe Carfax is right then. I'd love to think this'll be the last time I change either of those for 100k or so. I'm in the habit of changing all my gearboxes on the same schedule, 20-30k, only occasionally skipping the front and t-case. Maybe I'll skip them twice from now on.

I’m surprised the hex plug came out without stripping it at that mileage.

I was too. I got that sucker HOT with a torch before trying to loosen. Had a buddy watch it to make sure it wasn't stripping while I worked the breaker bar.

Pop an old injector in. Just for that one that’s overflowing. Does it have the issue? If not, contact DD. You got a defect, or maybe he’ll have you swap some stuff over. But yeah. Isolate it down to the injector and/or the rail. It’ll be one or the other.

the kings are smooth. Not too soft to hoon around town, but not too tight to make rough roads uncomfortable. Alot like my 6112's, but hes running an inch or two of preload just as comfortable.

I have 700lb springs because of armor all around and a winch. for front and rear it was about 3k with the rears being custom with resi.

This day got real bad trying to fix this. I ended up calling a mobile mechanic that pushed an injector cap into my intake then refused to do the work to get it out and left.... So I now have removed the intake manifold, retrieved the injector cap and then lost sunlight to put it all back together. I have new gaskets lying in wait for sunrise tomorrow and then I will try the old injectors and see if the issue is still happening. One thing I did notice is that the old injector o-rings have a little lip on them and DD ones do not so I was going to try oem o-rings and now old injectors. DD is closed on weekends so im hoping tomorrow I can talk to him.

Mostly long travel guys. You could get a secondary shock hoop from total chaos and ask them to get you setup with a 2.5” bypass shock to match the stock width front. I met a few of the guys at overland expo west a few years ago. Super rad group over there.

Just know suspension comfort is incredibly subjective. The general consensus is the more you spend the better it gets, but that's not necessarily true where the valving and tuning comes into play a lot more. If you're looking for a smooth ride to handle offroad then yes absolutely go for gold. I strongly recommend getting compression adjusters. You'll find that the rebound on these coilovers are pretty aggressive no matter which brand you get. I can't remember where I saw it, but I read a year or two ago that a company or multiple tune the rebound side digressively. I'm a BIG ADS fan. Customer service is unparalleled in the industry. I have fox coilovers up front (2.5 non adjustable non resi) and I personally think they're too soft. I cranked them up front to fit my wheel/tires and they're a lot closer to where they need to be.

The type of driving you do on and offroad will play into what suspension you should buy. If you do more slow speed crawling or maintain some moderate speed on service roads I don't think you'll see the differences between brands. You want it super soft and loose. Go fast whoops/jumps you want it to have a lot of compression especially as you get closer to bottoming out. That being said it's setup to go fast so you have to carry speed, but that comes with it's own set of problems. Gusseting, bump stops, making sure you don't break anything lol.

On double cabs I don't think shock choice isn't a dealbreaker like on the access cabs. I drove a DC with OME suspension and it felt fine, but my AC even with fox 2.0's in the back is EXTREMELY sensitive to weight. Even with my current triple bypass rear setup I feel like it's hypersensitive to weight over the rear end.

If I could make a suggestion if you want less jarring feeling work backwards on the AC. Bumpstops, rear leaf spring (even the AAL helps a ton), and a good rear shock that's adjustable. I feel like the bucking and forgiveness of the rear end wasn't great, but I don't have any experience with a stock AC to compare it to. Light to moderate full time weight has seemed to help irregardless of the setup out back though.

That's my one gripe about machined wheels. Your tires instantly look small. Still love it though.

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I am fine with too soft- I can crank them up if need be. But too firm? Not interested.

My issue is that my front springs are shot. That means that I'm overdamped and undersprung, which is a weird feeling. Really firm over little bumps, and it just bottoms out on any moderate bump. It's really uncomfortable. I mean, it's been almost 220k miles of terrible midwest roads. I'm not surprised that the springs are worn out. The rear seems to be fairly well adjusted, honestly no complaints out of the rear. It definitely rides nicer with 2-500lbs in the bed, but that's to be expected.

I'm really just looking for a better on-road ride and the capability to do moderate speed on forest roads without shooting the arm into the bumpstop at mach 1. Nothing crazy at all. It's really brutal to drive right now, I have to slow down for bumps on the road every time I drive it.

Well at least you know you won't like digressive valving haha. If the bilstien 8112/8110's were available for us I'd recommend those too. I've heard nothing, but good things about those.

Once you break into the 2.5 coilovers realm you won't regret it. Still recommend upgraded bump stops though.

Paint match was pretty fuckin solid for a home garage job. And I’m definitely eating mudflap with the 285s, even though they’re only 1/4 larger, and 3/8 wider overall, less than that even, I’m at half tread; pinch point and a side by side below.

Haha yeah I am done with digressive shocks. Can't wait to get something progressive on the truck.

I've heard great things about the 8112s as well. I'm a fan of bilstein overall- just wish they made something progressive for our trucks.

Wildpeak AT3W. And just noticed the fucking guys at discount mounted one of them backward from all the rest which is going to itch my OCD until I make it up there and ask them to fix the issue. Strapped for time though.

They're digressive though, right? I've heard good things but I'm not super interested if they're not linear or progressive.

My only experience with them is when Toyota used bilstein on the trd pros. I had the 4R and tundra pros and as long as you don’t add a ton of shim or crank the bilstiens they’re actually very pleasant.

Not a ton of mom and pop near me with the hardware to road force balance. A lot of smaller shops near me are old school and can't properly manage oversize/offroad wheel & tire combos. Cheap, running on thin margins, no $$ for fancy hardware.

Exactly my beef too. And I feel like my Toytec Aluma 2.0 (i.e. Elka rebrand for the Boss IIRC, and the the earlier Toytecs are Radflo rebrand IIRC?), which are supposedly progressive, are too damn firm. But I'm about to go see how much of that is my tire, when I run errands in a minute on the Wildpeaks, going from shorter/newer E-rated 275 to a taller/wider C-rated. The Toytecs are great over whoops, in fact, they're fucking awesome over whoops. But we don't have whoops around here, Almost everything I'm doing is mountain roads, forest roads. Every bump, every pothole is murder. Any bump that's sudden, not wavy like a whoop.

    6112 are digressive yep.

Even good shops can do it. Same exact thing happened to me. Maybe they aren't used to no whitewalls? These are the first tires I remember buying that were black on both sides, but one side had raised lettering, other was flat. When I got my new tires, I had the exact same thing happen. All raised-side-out except one. I definitely went back to have it fixed.

Aight well, at least they balanced out nicely. But here’s my observation:

These Wildpeak AT3W in 285/70r17 are a little softer than my Mickey BAJA Legend EXP, which is nice, but they’re noisy as shit from 25mph up to about 50, then they’re quieter than the Mickeys above 55. The Mickeys are definitely sticker, more firmly planted on the asphalt. the AT3W are too damn big. I’m gonna need to pull my mudflaps, OR I need to restock my UBJ to give +1 caster and I think it’ll solve my rub. But I’m still eating on compression while turning.

Tough call, because I’m looking to lower the front 3/4” with the 6112, do I go back to a smaller 275 A/T tire that’s more quiet? I see the AT3W are also oversized in 275, at 32.4 instead of the expected 32.2

    Anyway, three surprises.

One, cold morning, P0328 popped before I even got out of the garage today.

Two, would appear my rear driver wheel bearing has some play in it, I noticed while swapping wheels. No symptoms other than a hair of play.

Three, I forgot what three was for. Maybe later. Oh yeah. I was surprised my front lug nuts needed retorwue after coming home….
