There is a ton of really great water that rarely get fished if you drive the back route to GNP from Bozeman- all through the swan area- trout, bass, pike, all the species. Get bear spray before hitting the water!

Chased some Native Gilas in Arizona on friday...the population is looking better every year, with the fish more plentiful and larger too.

And this last one was caught on the right side undercut....was just dabbling on the way out and didn't expect to get one on the line...had to jump down from the top to land the fish safely.

One of the reasons we moved from Billings....but now we're planning a move back to ID, so I suppose we like the cold. Beautiful pics, and give the deg a scratch.

Thanks man! These are the fish that started me on my native trout binge, so I enjoy going back every year. The 3wt I use was the first rod I set up for myself from soup to nuts, and then caught a fish on it w my own fly selection.

I would tell you where I caught this, but then I would have to kill you.
In fact, it almost killed me just getting to the river to catch this darn thing.

That water looks very familiar from where I was fishing this time last year for my WY Cut Challenge...absolutely beautiful!

Love that area. I've got a really nice chest rig holster for my Redhawk 44mag from a leather worker in Ennis.

Beautiful pics too, and congrats on the catch.

Fly fishing author John Gierach passed away yesterday. He was a fantastic author and one of my favorites. His book Standing In A River, Waving A Stick was the first one of his that I read. He had a humorous, philisophical take on fly fishing that few authors ever matched. If you haven't read his stuff, might I suggest you give it a try. A few of my favorites:

Standing in a river, Waving a Stick

Even Brook Trout Get The Blues

    Sex, Death and Fly Fishing

    Dances With Trout

Tight lines, John. May you forever find the small mountain steams full of cutthroat rising to dries and the tumbling rivers teaming with big brookies hammering streamers. I hope you hang a hog.

Oh man. This gets me. Gierach has had such an influence on me over the years. For anyone interested many of his books have also been available on audio for a long time. There's nothing like driving through CO, WY, MT listening to Gierachs take on some of the quintessential rivers of the area.
For those times we all have on a river, when you're sorting out a way to live closer, fish more, own less, live simpler, Gierach lived it. Quite the dude.

The audio versions of his books are required listening on fishing trips.

In my family also. We drove out to Basalt one year and fished the Roaring Fork and the Fryingpan. Keeping those books rolling just made it seem like we were in his backyard.
