Alternator finally gave out at 450k. I go to install new one and find the bracket has broken off. Does anyone know what the front plate is that I will need to fix this? Guess I’ll be doing a timing belt change since I’m going in.. IMG_4550.jpg IMG_4549.jpg

The question now is.. Do I have to pull the motor to change the pump?

It’s the oil pump I’m pretty sure.

Both pans must be removed on the 2UZ to remove the oil pickup tube which is attached to the back of the pump by two studs.

Damn, dude. That corner broke off? Talk about poorly casted metal. Well at least you got to 450k miles before it happened.

Yea I watched the video, just didn’t know if anything is different with it being a 2nd Gen clearance wise.

Shit, if it were me, I'd have to spend a couple hours drilling it in two places, tapping the holes, then and bolting it back together with JB WELD inside the crack seam. The combo should be good enough to hold until the next timing belt change, where it'd be more reasonable to change it.

I dropped the bottom pan today, much easier than I expected. It looks like I can get to the bolts to remove the pickup tube and the bolts to remove the pump. IMG_4566.jpg

Wow. I wonder if that’s typical of what the bottom end looks like on our trucks. For 450k, it doesn’t look too bad. A wee-bit sludgy perhaps.

I’m getting back to it this afternoon. Hopefully get the new pump on at least with the time I have free to work on it.

I was able to pull the pump off with the 2nd pan still bolted up. However, I had to remove one of the studs for the pickup tube for it to clear. I ended up dropping the 2nd pan in fear I wouldn’t get a good gasket seal around the bottom of the new pump. It was a nightmare to clean due to it not having enough clearance to drop to the ground. I successfully got everything back together two weekends ago. A job I hope I never have to do again. Especially when it all started with the alternator going out.
