I recently traded my 2018 Taco which I had added a 10” JBL stealth box behind the passenger seat. The Bass on that one sub was epic. I traded it in for a 2023 Tundra with the 12 speaker JBL system. The bass the Tundra puts out is okay… but 95% of the bass comes from the doors. The Sub in the back puts out almost nothing. You can even test this by adjusting the balance to all in the rear. Overall the 12 speaker system is okay, it’s just that subwoofer is useless. I understand that there’s some people out there that are happy with the bass it’s putting out, but find me one that will testify as to the quality of that one subwoofer.

I’ve noticed this even on the stock 8 inch sound system. From the get go the fade was more towards the front and it sounded shity. I got in to the fade setting a reset the fade, put it dead center made a world of difference for the bass and sound.

I pulled the woofer out and added a kicker 8” l7t (square) sub under the rear seat in my 23 platinum. It isn’t earth shattering bass but it definitely sounds better than stock. I ran an audio control lci2 pro with accubass to help with roll off. Tapped a fuse under the glove compartment for remote turn on, and mounted my amp and lci in place of where the factory sub was located.

Ryan you are the best!! Very resourceful. Me gusta. College Station is not far away from me. Granting a turbo does not blow up on the way over there.

Im going to do something with the sub when I get mine, but not taking away the underseat storage, thats a non starter.

likely tear out the stock sub and use my current JL 10" in that same spot.

With wireless apple carplay the bass sounds like me tryna sign in the shower with the exhaust fan rattling lol. Have you tried wired car play or just regular Bluetooth it sounds way better.

I have the JBL audio and sub - I stream through SiriusXM and like house music which is bass-heavy on Sirius. I think it's a good sound for factory components. There is no equalizer so use a 3rd party app like poster above stated. I highly doubt the sub is powered with it's own amp so if you want deep, ball crushing bass, forget factory audio altogether.

I've done the whole "upgraded car audio" thing exactly once and will never do it again. You end up over-spending, over-building, and your car becomes an obnoxious trash-mobile to anyone around you. Even on perceived 'mild' settings, custom sound bleeds right through the vehicle and into whatever is around you.

I've also got a component system I built at home with a giant powered sub. Even with a 4-bedroom 1-story, I can hear and feel the bass from the street. It's caused problems with the neighbors so I've dialed it way below what I paid for. I can only recommend that "What you think you want to hear and what you will actually use are vastly different".

edit; If you're rural then go nuts

edit2; Closed enclosures don't equate to better. If you get sucked into the hell of audiophiles, some are designed open, some closed, some fire downward, other fire upward. They're all powerful which makes shopping/deciding annoying as hell.

That's weird my tundra sounds like it's limited on bandwidth in carplay I use spotify with maxed quality on cellular. Bluetooth with surround sounds the best for me but I might be getting my screen replaced under warranty so my radio might be bad?

for me the stock stereo just isnt that great at all, its not jsut about the bass, the mids and highs from a quality 3 way system like I have with a good amp, its all about clarity, my system sounds incredible which is the way I like it.

but Ill see when this thing gets here what I want to do.

the JBL in the gen 2.5 didnt do a damn thing and I don't like bass out of of the mid drivers in the door

so everyone is different, if you don't like really high quality audio, then hell no, don't bother with it

Exactly. I got my truck just before I took off for a month holiday so my plan is to get the Sat radio active and then decide. I do know my 2012 stock platinum with sub was better than the 2022, but in fairness I have not had a chance to dick with it yet

Apple car play, or Spotify for that matter will play whatever with the sound adjustments the phone is set to

Because some people can’t handle not always being right, so they banned taco tunes, the best Toyota Audio company.

Things like this are subjective. What is considered “shit customer service?” That you ordered an item, didn’t like it and had to pay return shipping? When my sub arrived and sounded horrible they offered to replace it. I told them I bought another one from the installer since I wanted my bass now, and they refunded the item and even sent me a return label.

Keep in mind your sub sounded horrible for one thing.
Maybe you haven't been around here long enough to read posts about their SHIT CUSTOMER SERVICE.
Not only this forum but other Tundra forums as well.
It isn't that customers didn't 'LIKE' their TT products.
It's more like they were charged, items weren't shipped, and they wouldn't respond to phone calls or emails..
There Sir, is your shit customer service.

I'm so elated it all worked out for you.
Perhaps I should order an entire system from them now (of cheap rebranded products) and drive to San Antonio and have them install it upon your satisfactory recommendation..

I believe apple music transfers lossless files but then this could be an apple thing. I have a 13 pro and on wireless carplay I'm limited to ACC-LC codec Audio Priming in AAC which compresses the audio and on wired carplay. On bluetooth I get LCPM codec with higher throughput which lets me run dolby digital and the most noticeable difference is in classical music and overall just handles a wider sound stage better with proper frequency separation amongst the drivers. On long drives I use carplay and sometimes the audio is good but most of the time it's not pleasant.

I wonder if the OEM JBL amplifier have adjustable crossover cutoff settings. Can someone confirm this?

I added a small self Powered Sony sub. Does the job, just enough bass for my taste.

How does that work? Do you have to connect to the truck and sub at the same time?

The sub has an amp built in, my stereo shop wired it to the head unit so it's on with the stereo

they likely ran power wire directly to it and then grabbed the signal off the current one perhaps or the rear speakers depending on what system is in the truck

Thank you for this tip! I had also been feeling like, while the JBL system sounded "ok" - all of the highs and vocals were coming from the windshield and the sound just wasn't "full." Turning off surround was the trick, and I now have no complaints. Yes, the bass in the doors, when cranked up can cause some rattling. Eventually I'll dynamat the doors - when I get the courage to rip apart the door panels of a brand new $70k truck o_O
