73K was the oem failure. And you nailed it on dura-don't-last being junk. Napa, auto zone and advanced auto parts stores are my only local choices for parts stores. And if I plan for anything I usually order parts online.

hmm 73k def seems premature on failing, its just the one side that ripped? how does the other side boot look?

yes just the one side. Your theory here is also possible, right after install my wife and I went camping and drove some Forrest services roads out that caused a lot of articulation and stretching for sure. Hope my cv issues are behind me though with the oem remaned replacement.

    Because...

Changed my wife's oil the other day and also noticed that her 04 sequoia with oem cvs has dry rotting boots on both of her cvs. So I'm heading to Denver today to pick up some oem remaned cvs for her rig. She's at 164k and 20 years old though.

That's wild. Seems like something outside of normal wear and tear could be the culprit. That's pretty early mileage for a failed boot. My truck had a 3" front spacer since new till about two years ago. Has 226k miles now of harsh Canadian winter, still original CVs. Granted it does have a diff drop, it's probably same CV angle if not steeper than no diff drop with 1.5" lift...

yeah I'm leaning towards you just managed to either split that boot wheeling or it just degraded over time. You just got unlucky with the duralast

you could replace the boots on her CVs and keep them as spares or turn them into stub shafts, Toyota OE CVs are fantastic and will hold up to a 37" tire in heavy wheeling on the tundra

Can confirm this. OEM CV are just fine. However, my power steering has left the building.

Truck has 160k on it and this will be its first major repair ever (once I’m off the side of the road).

37s. It blew the drivers side 30mins out on a pretty aggressive forest service road that I knew nobody would come up to get me so I wrestled it down to a road and blew the passenger side in the process.

    None…yet
Nothing today, but since I’ve owned my 2011 rock warrior I have replaced the antenna (and gromit), the passenger side rain drip mould, added husky all weather floor mats, replaced the lock mechanism on the peragon bed cover, and added rain guards to the windows.

I bought a remaned oem axel from cvj in Denver. They do sell boot kits but didn't want to mess with all that. They sell upgraded boots for lifts, stock oem boots or aftermarket boots all on oem cvs. Happy that I have oem options available within an hours drive each way. I'm done with parts store crap after this last experience.

Hyper dipped the OEM wheels. I will be better if/when I ever do it again, but the dip was really forgiving.

After I had one of my front shock reservoirs leak and rebuilt, I went ahead and bit the bullet and replaced the shocks and coilovers on Kompns8.

Replaced with the same rare (because of the length I guess?) Fox 2.5 coilovers up front and Fox 2.0 in rear. I have orange and black labels coming in for the front reservoirs to match the rear.

Not 100% on the location of the front reservoirs yet but they’re close to what they were before. Does anyone know a part that will mount above the shock mount and hold the reservoir there?

Also replaced the front diff and added a double Cardin front drive shaft after hearing noises I didn’t like at higher speeds in 4WD.

Truck still sitting high and level! Next step would be to sand blast and paint or powder coat the lift kit as it’s seen better days.

It’s the Bulletproof 10”-12” lift which should be set at the max 12”. Currently on 38’s but want to go to 40’s. Would either have to get different offset wheels or hack the front bumper and do a BMC.

And forgot to add, here is what my shocks looked like before. Thinking about sending to fox to get rebuilt but they don’t do anything with the outside which these look really rough. Not sure if sandblasting and powder coating is possible?

See if Shock Surplus will clean them, I’m pretty sure they do when they rebuild… you could also see if someone could dry ice blast them so they don’t have to be re-powder coated

I had hoped my next post here would have been something fun like larger tires. But over the weekend, the truck went into limp mode on the highway. Pulled the code P2445 and today mechanic charged me ~$2,200 to fix one half of the secondary air intake system. I guess valves failed which led to the pump failing.

Every time I had to pull my headers I changed my starter! That was probably 5 times. Just cheap insurance. This year my starter failed and was under warranty but still had to pull the long tubes.
