Red button on seatbelt sticking

It's becoming a pain to buckle seatbelt. The button stays stuck in most of the time and it won't lock.
I don't want to spray wd40 or lithium grease in it because I'm sure it will end up on my clothes from the belt sliding across me

Any ideas?

 

Maybe try cleaning it out with some brake cleaner? I like silicone spray lube because it dries, for situations just like this.

Mine was so bad at one point I couldn't get the belt to click like yours.

 

Maybe spray some cleaner (409 or whatever), let it sit a few minutes, wrap it in a towel, and blow it out with compressed air.
I like @15whtrd suggestion as well..

 

I did all that on mine and it helped a little bit, but didn't really fix it. The thing that fixed it though was to bend it around so it was pointing downward and tapping it on the side with a screwdriver handle. Some little piece of debris had fallen into it and was jamming up the mechanism.

 

You could try plastic SAFE contact cleaner. It will clean any sticky grime and not leave any oily residue, protect the surrounding fabric or whatever seat material. Then very small amount of silicone spray, that will also help things move, again without any oily residue. Make sure anything you try is plastic safe. CRC makes one, and is readily available at most hardware stores. The silicone spray alone might help it things aren't too grimy.

Very interesting. My drivers side still works even though it’s recessed until you put in the connecting belt. Looks as though only ONE tab is broken and the other is still good.

 

Had same issue on my 1st. Gen. Tacoma. Lil' WD40 and back in business...
