Not sure if California wild fires usually make national headlines but right now we got a pretty big fire one county over from me and I'm praying for everyone affected.

Just learned about this website today called Watch Duty that gives you live updates and this is what So Cal looks like right now..

I love that meme! Use it all the time. But coming from someone actually in Idaho after seeing that makes it 10x's funnier. Sorry

Drought. Years of poor Forrest management. Lots of lightning storms and little to no rain. Then throw in all the human caused fires and well, recipe for disaster. It's been smokey for 2 months now.

Never traveled through Eastern Oregon or at all close to Idaho but I've always thought everything North of Central Cali is greener pastures and majestic rivers and waterfalls.

Maybe west of the Cascades. Both eastern Oregon and Washington are dry and arid. Blue mountains in Southeast Washington and Northeast Oregon are grassland and timber mix. Other than that it's grass and sagebrush.

North Idaho gets into the Rockies and gets more snow fall, tends to get more rain too:

Damn, that sucks. Hope you all are safe. Doesn't look like anywhere up there is safe though :(

We got people out here complaining about the air quality being shit cause of the fires going on right now but I can imagine it's worse out there

If you like the outdoors, hunting, and fishing, there's not many places better IMO.

About a week after we moved in to our new house a month or so ago I got to wake up to this. It's the view out of my bedroom window.
I later found out it was started by some tweaker out in the forest in the middle of the night playing with a homemade torch/flamethrower.

By the afternoon it had exploded and this was what it looked like off my porch.

Fires here in the INW are just a part of life now. Once late July hits it's smoke season... Luckily mid September usually brings a rapid cool down and some moisture. But for a couple months of the year I get a little nervous every time wind is in the forecast...

Good luck to those dealing with active fires! I'm hoping for an early and wet fall.
