I’m always down for an excuse to buy something new, but I’m fine in brown bear country with BB +P 9mm in a Glock 19.

Check this out. The guy tells his story, and if you scroll down, you can see where one of his rounds entered the bear’s back on one side and was sticking out of the muscle on the other. That is some serious penetration on a large male grizzly, whereas your average 9mm probably won’t penetrate much at all

 

Definitely a good round in those circumstances for 9mm... combo of muzzle velocity and the hard cast did its job!!!

I don't believe anyone has tried NOVX 9mm when dealing w/dangerous game, but this is an interesting read as well and its ballistic tests are impressive and interesting (especially through barriers); not saying I'd trust it of BB or UW Hardcast for dangerous game, but it would be interesting to see its performance in that environment considering its muzzle velocity. Through gels, etc. their testing shows that the higher velocity creates more expansive wound cavities and offers greater penetration especially when dealing w/barriers and other surfaces that generally result in fragmentation.

My own testing of this ammo through barriers such a door skins, windshields, wood, drywall, etc. of this round has been quite impressive in terms of mass retention and penetration. We've known for a long time that the +p and +p+ rounds offer better terminal ballistics due to velocity, but even @ 1700fps out of 9mm, having a bullet that only weighs 65g isn't something that I'm quite ready to 'stand behind' yet in real world defense situations.

I will say that those rounds are fun to shoot and smooth as silk coming out at those kind of velocities and much more accurate as you reach further out (at least when dealing w/paper ).

 

Pretty sure my first instinct would be to spray a smokescreen as well, but it wouldn’t make it out of my pants
