I took a few pics at Safeway during Covid, as I figured people wouldn't believe me when I told them about it in 20-30y.

Such a messed up situation on so many levels…
Our recent water main break in Calgary helped restore some of my faith in humanity with the majority drastically cutting their water usage. Really nice to see people work together for a common goal.

I'm a firm believer that most people are good, just news like to talk about the bad.

First new Taco TRD Pro I've seen in the wild, from far it looked like Hummer EV, which I'm not ashame to say I like it, it looks very sharp, I'm a fan-boy of the ARB bumper and the red hooks, if someone makes them for 2nd gen I'd buy them, $90k for a Tacoma is bit wild for me thou.

It was not intentional, I was at Tim's and saw those two parked at the back, so I quickly parked there to snap photos.

This is 100% accurate. If MOST people weren’t “good” or at least decent, society wouldn’t function at all.

I agree with you. Spent many summers in Geraldton and Thunder Bay. North Bay too I guess. Being a BC boy I’d say it’s as beautiful and peaceful as anywhere. So long as that cool westerly breeze stays constant! Nice pics.

    That looks awesome.

What are the big differences between ON parks and elsewhere? We've yet to venture out of province.

They are just different. Mosquitoes come to mind, but quite frankly everyone has the biggest mosquitoes. It’s the tiny ones that are the nastiest but no one says that! I used to say it’s the
mountains being from BC but in all seriousness interstellar beauty is the same degree in each province.
Ease of access or lack of is what’s different from each. I’ve found 20’ travel trailers in the most incredible places, certainly you aren’t getting there without serious dedication and somewhat modified tow rig. Boating in Ontario is so much less complicated, accessible. I could go on and on. But in the end they are the same to me. BTW, most really incredible brochure pictures are taken from a rock just off the side of a highway people drive by at high speed and don’t even recognize most of them!
BTW that trailer you have I don’t recognize. What model is it? Nice looking.

    Compared to MB.

Cleaner campgrounds, bathrooms, facilities, park rangers actually drive and walk around to enforce yahoos (although not as much as they used to), programs for kids (no longer needed in our case), cleaner lakes, less mosquitos.

They book differently too. In MB, it opens up for booking and everyone books all their camping on day 1. In ON, they book 5 months to the day (then you can book for the week), so it makes booking less stressful.

ON costs more, but it's worth it, they also have BIG penalties for cancelling a booking you have held for 5 months. This prevents people, as they do in MB, from booking all the good spots and long weekends and then cancelling the day before or just not showing up. The penalty in MB for cancelling is like $10. If you cancel a week in ON, that you had reserved 5 months in advance, you can loose 1/2 ($175).

We camped a few years in MB and during Covid when we couldn't cross the border. But it's wroth the drive to ON for us. With the new trailer, we hope to venture even further, especially after retirement (5y).

MB doesn't charge enough $12-15, to sustain clean parks, park staff, etc.

That booking system in MB was what Ontario used to be like until Covid, which some people would sell their slots on Kijiji, they also change it to 2 weeks limits during peak season at popular parks, we love Bon Echo, and people used to book 1-2months at a time and use it as a cottage.

If you like fishing and want to drive, head to Wheatley, I've had spots that was backed directly onto the bay and I was able to fish from our spot.

Was at Selkirk this past weekend, which was 20mins away from Toronto Motorsport Park, aka Cayuga, was trying to trick the wife to let me head to Fri night test & tune, she said yes but I fell asleep too early, the spot was amazing thou:

Take the back way north of Geraldton and around to Long Lac. Fun drive! It is really beautiful.

I've lived from BC to Nova Scotia, Iqualuit to Whitehorse. Not travelled to, but lived at. Mosquitoes are the same bastards
everywhere, no one has less or more.
I haven't been to a campground in 25+ yrs. The whole reservation thing is kinda out of my mind.

I find if I go camping with my buddies for a weekend of fun, we head into crown land towards the rockies.. We can shoot guns, quad, dirtbike and camp without having some karen whine about us. The wife and I have a trailer out on a lake nearby, Pigeon, where it stays all year. Trying to camp in provincial and/or private campgrounds is an utter nightmare from what I've read. Have to stay up till 3am to book a site 3 months ahead in a campground, no spank you!! I believe going crown land is the ultimate way to go, also because you need a 4x4 to get in and out of most places, it keeps the city slicker riff raff out.

It is still possible to get awesome campsites as long as you do not have a plan.
I do agree that crownland camping is fantastic if you do not mind guns/bikes lol, probably keeps a lot of people away to be honest. I really like that my dog can be free to do dog things, not many places to let your dog off leash these days.

Oh yeah, if you're willing to drive somewhere on a hope and prayer maybe get a spot, sure, but I know no one that has that kind of freedom, especially if you're towing a 40' toy hauler behind ya lol. Yeah, we don't really let the dogs go off because of the presence of bears and cougars and stuff. I keep a 12 gauge in the tent as we've had a few close encounters of the Yogi kind. I love it though, its so nice out there in nature. Our lake lot is great and the wife and I really enjoy it, but being miles away from everyone is great too.

I believe most places are reservation only and people cancel all the time so we just go that way, not having a plan helps a lot.
And our trailer is 12’ not 40’ lol.

Little piece of discontinued highway between Terrace and Pr Rupert. It’s never that hard to find a piece of quiet along the way! I haven’t fitted the Tundra for this kind of trip, not sure how that’s gonna work out yet.

I've always camped Provincial Parks and don't mind them. The booking is sometimes hectic, but we have always managed to get the spots we want on various dates. Sometimes it means booking a week before or after we had planned, but it always works out. My wife and I both work jobs that you need to pre-book holidays, so we have to balance that as well. Knowing we are guaranteed a spot at a Provincial Park can be reassuring, instead of wandering around wondering where we are going to settle down for the night.

Because we camp with kids (have been since they were 3 &5), we trailer camp. Now we trailer and tent camp and bring both. Some in trailer, some in tent. We can't trust our dog free roaming (high prey drive), so if she saw a fox or even a rabbit, she'd be gone. I don't believe crown land camping is as easy in MB as other provinces or setup for trailers. My wife enjoys the "comfort stations" with hot showers, so we balance camping at provincial parks to make everyone happy.

That's not to say I won't ever do it, I'd love to just pull into a piece of land and settle down for a week, alone, no one around. Luckily, we have found a few parks that are remote, rustic, no cell service, limited campers and quite. The last one we went to, my wife and I were the last ones up in the park and it was only 10pm. Not a peep, no music, no fights, no drunken parties or dog barking.

I agree the conveniences of parks are generally fantastic. Sounds like you have found some real gems out your way.

I hear you on the prey drive dog, ours was a maniac in his youth, so much so that we bought a gps collar for him, takes a lot of the stress away. For us its worth the risk to let him explore, he loves it so much and that makes us very happy (dog parents, no kids). He is 9 now and stays mostly near us? He has disappeared many times on us in the woods, and also in the city. There has been at least 7 phone calls from strangers saying they have our dog…

Crown land is my first choice. If I can see, hear or smell other groups, they're too close.

Otherwise, it's remote forest service, regional, or provincial parks with a first come first serve system and low or no fees and we go in the middle of the week.

We just got gifted a tent trailer so we'll take it out the few times a year we go places we can tow it in.
