I'm new so yall may have discussed this already but I have seen many first gens, may all be 2002 like mine but not sure, that the bed is a different color. Here is one that I think is Thunder Grey like mine and if you look close you will see the bed is a different shade. Mine is very noticeable. My wife and I look for them now when were out. I saw a white one the other day where the bed was not the same white. I have probably seen 8-10 so far.

Definitely a different shade of silver. I know silver can be difficult to get even when I spray it but, I would think Toyota could figure it out. Never repainted I guess? Here's my 2001 silver Tundra and a 2012 Hyundai I have, both silver. They both look pretty good, although the Hyundai has a bit of variation on one door, very slight though.

I would suspect that would be a repaint from a previous accident or body work.
Mine was all chalk when i bought it, sat up in the sun for years and was covered in white chalk and green mold. I washed it and buffed it to find multiple panels with clear coat on them, clearly repainted and sprayed with base coat and clear coat rather than the single stage white Toyota used.

    My cab is OEM white
My front fenders and hood are OEM white
My passengers doors are OEM white
    My tailgate is OEM white
My rear bumper is OEM white

Half my front bumper is resprayed base coat with a clear coat
My drivers doors is resprayed base coat with a clear coat
Both bed sides are resprayed base coat with a clear coat

After the whole truck is buffed to a shine you cant really tell, it all looks shiny and glossy.
As the OEM single stage white starts to chalk over again the clear coated panels really start to look different.
Carfax says my truck has never been in an accident, it has all the OEM panels, vin tags are on every panel and in every door, all the door jambs are original as are the inside of every door, it had the OEM windshield with not a single rock peck. The entire front end only had 3 rock chips on the original paint. Pulling the door panels off, of the repainted doors and looking inside the shell you cant see any body work, no scars in the metal, i cant tell you why the panels were repainted unless vandalism or someone keyed it. The drivers side is the easiest to spot because the drivers front and rear door match but the cab corner is OEM single stage (flat) white and the drivers bedside matches the doors with clear coat. That thin stripe of cab corner breaks up the shiny white doors and bedside.
If someone had keyed it you would have maybe expected the vandalism to run down the doors and cab corner, but alas i cant tell you what happened or why it was repainted, its not on Carfax and the old man that owned it since new passed away and apparently one of his kids traded it in to a dealership for them a new car so who knows how or why.
I suspect yours was repainted, honestly if you look hard enough you will see different color body panels on about 1/3rd of the vehicles you see. The paint shops these days do a horrible job of blending, they do a terrible job of color matching and panel paint and the color variances stick out like a sore thumb.

The problem with that particular color is one shade of tint darker and it looks blueish silver. One shade too light and it looks pinkish silver. The painter for my truck went through the same issue. Got it right on the 2nd mix unfortunately with metallic you can still see the difference under fluorescent street lamps since it’s hard to match the spray angle at the factory (best way to examine a car for sale to see if it was repainted, btw).

exactly...my bed looks pink/mauve in the sunlight. However, of the ten or so I have seen, its always 100% of the time the bed thats off color.

P.S. I only know what color mauve is due to my wife :)

My truck hasn’t seen dirt in 3-4 years. I thought it would be a good idea to open a restaurant just as a pandemic was about to hit the world. So I’ve been busy with that. :D Anyways, sold the restaurant a couple months ago so I’m going to start wheeling again. Won’t be ready next month but soon.

And the last time me and @Cruzer wheeled together, another tundra flopped onto his lid.

Yup. Bed was repainted at some point. It's really difficult to match factory color, especially with cheaper paint jobs/companies!

I will say though, you may see more hardcore fade on certain panels than others too. But typically, when I've seen this on other people's trucks and asked, they had a repaint done. You notice it most with doors and beds.

Kidding! A few years back we kept having 2.5s come in and give bad info to new 1st gen questions. We kept having to remind them that they're in 1st gen land and it just kinda stuck over the years.

Mine had a scratch blended at about 1 year old and the guy was a paint genius, but I have heard it's a hard color to match. My strategy is that it will all be one color once the rust evens out. :D

The Tundra is at about 105,500 miles and the Hyundai is at about 120,000 miles. Both bought new by me. BTW, I don't have a thing for the color silver, but the only Hyundai I could find in SoCal with a manual 6 speed transmission just happened to be that color. Very little availability anymore if you want 3 pedals.
