I have a 23 platinum. I noticed lots of tiny chips on the dark chrome(maybe from small rocks). When looking closer, that dark chrome is just a regular chrome with a layer of tint paint. Disappointed on the quality they used here.

Agreed, my 23 1794 is getting tiny chips in the plastic chrome on the mirrors and grille too...my old Toyotas either have higher quality thermo-plastic trim or actual stainless steel or chrome metal (1997 4Runner or 2003 Tacoma) Let's be honest...nobody puts vehicles together like Japan did from the late 90's to mid 2000's. My 2002 LS430 blows away any new Lexus or high end Euro car in build quality. That era of glass headlights, real bolts and screws holding things together is sadly gone. Everything is plastic, pop rivets and pushpins now...oh and bio-degradable so rodents will enjoy the chew...like my intake vapor mats that were eaten up on the dealers lot.

2023 Platinum owner here: I have noticed the same. Its obvious when you look at any chip in the grille, that it is obviously the same chrome grille they used on the 1794 but with another layer of dark chrome coating on top.....making any chip WORSE since now the chrome is noticeable!

Toyota does not make a touch up paint for the dark chrome. My Platinum is Magnetic Grey....I just used a tooth pic and tapped in the MGM paint color into any chip I get in the grille.... Its not a perfect match, but it gets rid of the chrome and makes it 90% less noticeable!. I did paint protection film on my Tundra on the whole front end, they couldn't do the Grille since its too complicated. So I don't get chips in the mustache pieces thankfully!

Nice! But the grills (chain link style) of your platinum is also prone to this chipping. Was about to wrap the moustache too, but noticed the grilles are also affected. So no go

Good but the grilles are made from the same exact material and finish. There would be chips there as well.

I’ll take a closer look at mine but the material seemed different for the grill , my surround is completely different now though as the parts were ordered then painted then installed and you start with no chrome when your going to paint

Yes it is the same material. Plastic dark chrome. Unless your 2023 platinum is different than ours. Check the pic posted above by MaineTundy . I have the same

it’s hard to see any damage or chipping with the rain water present.

not trying to be a d**k, but I even went to get my ipad and I don’t see anything.

Maybe this will help. The ‘arrow’ is at the bottom of a 3” section of chipped paint. It’s on the stash, not the grill.

Same here… I purchased an extended warranty when I first bought it, it’s supposed to cover paint defects. I’m taking it in this weekend and I will see what they say.

do you guys have any chips on the grill portion?

I looked at mine and it's clean, but so is my grill surround.

but that is not painted over chrome, it was base black parts ordered specially to be painted by a professional body shop

I looked over mine before I took the pics and it’s only the surround. I got quoted 1k to color match it by a local body shop

the black unfinished replacement parts are cheap. They weren't quoting some prep to the current chrome one right?

maybe get another quote to see if you can do any better.

its looks so much better color matched anyways

It was for stripping and paint. This shop is where I take my Audi for work. I’m sure I can get it cheaper somewhere else, but I trust these guys. Hopefully this extended warranty will do something about it. This is clearly a defect

don't dick around with striping, prep, and paint.

new OEM parts unpainted and ready are cheap, and then your not messing with the previous chrome ones.

My dealer was nice enough to replace my grill and mustache for free when it started to flake.

Replace with what? The same dark chrome material? Or the replacement is now with a different material?

maybe bumbershellz will consider a dark chrome mustache??? OR EVEN DARK CHROME TO COVER PLATINUM ON THE DOORS. Sorry. I have a few small chips on the Stache but haven’t noticed much on grill.

Some of us here are not so lucky. We had chips on both stash and grille. Even if bumpershellz do a stash, what about the grille?
