this is one of the many reasons I shy from the 3rd gen.

I actually agree with him. The assertion that a turbo engine is losing power at altitude is absurd. The OP is either a troll or has no idea what he's doing/talking about.

 

but....all engines lose power at altitude.

turbos just lose less.

 

My jet lag was bad last night. Intentionally stayed away to try and get to sleep.

It didn’t work. My brain is an asshole when it is bored…

Ok, so here we go w/a little pup update:

Bonding: This little dude loves people, so navigating new environments and situations (exposing him to as many as possible every day) is super easy when you can pair the new environment/activity with positive human interaction; yes reward and shaping based treats are frequently in the picture, but it's nice that praise and affection can be used as well

Sit stay and recall: Both coming along nicely. I can put him in a sit/stay and move out to about 30-40' feet away w/minimal distraction at this point (still building on time, distance and distraction levels in that order); training hint for shaping behavior: time before distance before distraction...

Down: So, when we started working on down, I noticed him kinda hoping the one front leg forward as he was moving into a down; it seemed awkward and unstable, so I stopped working it for a day and thought through it...

came up w/resolution which is to use a technique I used w/downing dogs after the release, and that was to train them to down w/front legs in place and allow the rear end to move back; we did this because strong dogs would release during training and essentially 'body check' the decoy on the way down (even muzzling the dude's or chick's crotch on the way down) and ultimately end up w/their front half on top of the decoy's feet... this was the dog's attempt to sucker the decoy into moving which would elicit another bite and to also exert dominance over the decoy

in Buddy's case, this technique seems to be working out really well cuz it allows him to remain stabilized on the front leg as his lower half moves rearward in a more stabilized fashion on the way down

Next topics to tackle:

Obviously continuing w/the above behaviors, but to higher levels of performance

Get him comfortable walking up/down on a ramp

Condition a reinforcer (such as a clicker)

Teach 'place', using place boards; place boards will become 'targets' as we begin training directional control (left, right, forward and back) with voice and hand signals in the future

Thinking through whether or not to train him to detect 'human odor' or if I'm wanting to use a variety of organic odor compounds for scent based training exercises and activities....

Time for a small drink and a little snack before bed time.

PS>>> Wife is getting back up super early today to go do something w/her parents, so she's taking the spare room for a couple of hours and she ended up building Buddy a little 'Pillow Fort' on her side of the bed for Buddy to hang out in while I sleep today
