Throughout the years I've seen thousands of concept car drawings. Regularly futuristic look that nobody would want, and by the time the production car rolls out the real product is completely different. The Cybertruck reminds me of those drawings, and someone was just too stubborn to finish it for production.

Whatever this forum told me to do

    flip this around..

you saw drawings that were not feasible with NHTSA

Tesla engineers had it right the first time.

I like the design. It’s unique. Everyone raves about the f150 being a continuation but it’s so fucking boring.

Having an ev is new, exciting, “cutting edge”. Lighting is just an electric grandpa truck with them boomer window dips

Tires for sure. Same is true if you race your Raptor, TRX, etc.

But I keep reading that stoplight racing depletes the CT’s entire battery. Do we have any actual source for this? Or does it just temporarily “guzzle” range the same way a boosted ICE guzzles fuel for a few seconds? Yes, it got worse fuel economy by far, but a 10-second race doesn’t really register on the fuel gauge…

    I can attest to this.

a solid 0-60 run in a MS Plaid eats little to no battery. negligible.

tires, about the same. (let's not discuss what a "wife's" impact is on tires)

let's face it, the only diff is energy storage. and it stores about 300 miles of "gas".
but, it refills every night---in your garage---as you sleep.

Cybertruck is not my cup of tea, but this one is better (to my eye).

I’d still prefer a Rivian - in 12 to 18 months once the remaining kinks are fully worked out.

Well I have a wife that never charges her phone, so I assure you any electric vehicle in the garage would never be fully charged and ready lol. As such, there would never be a 300 mile range available. Every time we pass the dealership and see a bZ4X she wants to know what it is with interest, and I remind her it's a hard no because she'd have to keep it charged....and I know she won't. She is the type who will plug in her phone after it just died, wait 5 minutes and unplug it again...then be surprised it dies 10 minutes later. No charging requirements for her! I carry 2 phones and neither die on me.

In the middle of Kansas there's not an abundance of chargers if you take a trip, certainly not fast chargers. If we bought the bZ4x we wouldn't be able to make it to KC on a single charge. A "fast" charge to 80% still takes 30 minutes, which is a long time to wait in a random parking lot. Probably have to do the same 2 more times before we finally got home, yet I can go to KC and back on one tank barring a 30MPH headwind.

I can't speak to the Toyota EV, or to non-tesla chargers. other than non-Tesla chargers are very unreliable.

but Tesla is very convenient to charge all over the country. Kansas...well...you got me there! I guess I70 has all the Tesla chargers.

and my wife, the primary driver of our EV, now naturally plugs it in every time she parks in the garage. always has a full tank.

let's face it...one only drives ~50 miles per day on avg.

when we take trips in the EV, yes...we plan different. but generally speaking...Tesla chargers are built in fun/populated places.

The Tesla gives us, let's be honest, enough range to fit into the bio breaks of driving...~250 miles. 80% charge.

that 80% recharge takes ~15 minutes at Tesla superchargers.

I'm not trying to be an EV fanboy...just cutting thru all the negative media muck.

EV's are good for folks that want an EV.

    I drive a Tundra.

Ya, that's Kansas. My city (not "small") has 11 charging stations throughout, and most are at the hospital. Those spots are almost always used by the doctors through the day, so it's not like they're available generally speaking. Only 2 Tesla chargers I see. Though I also know of a few on dealership row that don't show up in searches. Not sure the public can use them?

Even if assembled in the US, the raw materials for the batteries come from overseas and have to be shipped.

Another consideration for any EV, and ESPECIALLY the Cybertruck is how to use it for storm recovery (i.e. hurricanes) that take down a significant portion of the local power grid, sometimes for several days or weeks. You absolutely cannot use it AS A TRUCK because you would deplete your battery much more quickly running it under load, and you would have no way to recharge. Yes, there generators but fuel for them may well be limited and expensive as well. So, Very hot weather, very cold weather, hauling heavy loads, and major power outages greatly limit the utility of a Cybertruck.

I know you weren't concerned about the environmental aspect, but that is a major argument for EV's by those pushing them.

Major power outages greatly affect all trucks

Ill concede it may affect ev’s worse

cold weather. Would have to be <0 degrees

    hot weather. Not really

heavy loads. Affects ICE trucks too, just not as much

    major power outages. Affect both

In short I think ev’s are great for suburban commuters.

    Commercial truck stuff. No.

    Consistent long distance/rural. No.

If the new truck was available with a 5.7 with a 6sp or 10spd, I would have been all over that like my fat ass on a cupcake. Thats my whole thought as well, I think I've bought my last truck, I have to do whatever I can do to make this 2020 last till they bury me as all of the new offerings have way too much BS that can, and will, go wrong. As far at the cybertruck goes, it looks like an autobot sex toy, no thanks.
