So I've only caught 240v once, and I did not enjoy it. I was putting a meter back in its base and had my index finger on both hands touching the terminals on the back for some reason. 240v straight through the chest. Not a good day to be bmf.

 

How did that happen if you were just cleaning up?

Cleaning the yard right after cleaning then getting out of the pool - so I was dripping wet and went to pick up the washout hose right next to the pump motor. My wet hand came in contact with the motor housing. Apparently it’s energized.

 

It didn’t feel good - that’s for sure. I should have snapped a pic of the discoloration in my hand where current entered but was too worried about dying.

 

Those should have a ground wire ran on the outside and connects all your pool equipment together. That shouldn't happen at all.

You need to come get me squared away. The EMT they used to run power to the pool equipment has all corroded. I need to run new conduit / wires from the panel on the other end of the lot either over or around the house.


Over would be about 120’- around probably 200’.

I agree - hiccup is wiring is fucked. Grounding it at this point will just trip the breaker. Going over the roof sounds like my best bet since I have a back patio coming off the foundation in the backyard and a walkway and driveway in the front both blocking the path from the panel to pool equipment - any issues other than my HOA running conduit up the stucco wall, across the roof and down the other side?

Parapet style flat roof. Test out my bending skills or lack thereof.

I'd pop open the peckerhead to check the connections first. If it's the windings inside shorting to the case then you can get the motor re-wound. But, there should be a ground in the conduit as well. That SHOULD NOT be zapping you.

Also, I can show you how to bend pipe. It's pretty fun and you can usually find benders in pawn shops for cheap.

 

I’ll send you a pic of the conduit and it will all make sense.

 

I'm having a hard time picturing why your ground point is so far from the pump.
Is your power distribution panel that far away? Mines just a little over a foot.

Replace it is on the list. The hose is only six inches long.

 

How did that happen? I would consider relocating the panel. But you're probably on a slab. You're in a pickle for sure. If you got shocked by the motor housing, I would seriously consider not using the pool until the wiring is fixed.
