Will this drive up value due to simple supply/demand?

Given the discounts they were over producing versus market demand anyway

Crated Engine Assembly. Intercooler down to oil pan with all coolant tubes and wiring harness. It will be this.

VERY unlikely that they will stop assembling new Tundra/Sequoia, especially when you consider the current sales volume on the Tundra for Jan 2024-July 2024.

My only experience with mass failure is the late 90s to early 2000s Honda Accord 5 speed auto. Honda sold like 2m of them with a very high failure rate and many vehicles experiencing multiple failures. Honda setup a machine gun supply chain with weekly tranny deliveries to all dealers whose technicians could do them in their sleep. If Toyo puts in the resources they can machine gun 100k replacements quicker than you think. The if is do they put in the resources up from to make it happen or try to do it on the cheap

I'd imagine they're already full up on three shifts daily as it. They would have to either reduce new model output or expand production. My semi-educated guess will be that we'll see a reduction of new model output for 25 and 26 MY (not by a huge amount) to meet the engine replacement demand. It will be really interesting to follow how they do this, unless they greatly expand production and warehousing capabilities.

Doesn't the plant kinda shut down every year for model year changes anyway? Maybe they're just extending that downtime, so rather than building ~700 Tundra's a day, they're stockpiling engines for the recall. I don't know how many they make per day now, but holding back 700 engines a day gets them 21,000 engines a month (if 30 days of production).

They don't really need to get all 100k+ engines ready right away, so I wouldn't suspect 5 months of downtime. If all 1,200+ dealerships in the US completed 1 per day for 5 weekdays, then they could keep pace. Naturally there's other non-recall customers, so that pace could never be kept. If all 1,200+ dealerships completed just 2 replacements a week, it could still get all of them done in less than a year. Of course maybe not all dealerships will be equipped (tools or staff) to do any in a timely manner. That 1 day to complete goal is really a key to getting this done quickly, and not just completed, but trucks not returned because something was missed.

The Nissan plant in Canton, MS shuts down for a week or two to re-tool (during Christmas time every year). President of the old hunting club I was in works there and would stay at camp during that time. He's a design engineer and every so often he'd get picked to work for half the re-tool time, but didn't mind since it was overtime pay.

The engines are assembled in Huntsville AL at TMMAL. I believe the blocks are cast at Jackson TN at TMMTN which used to be called Bodine. I also believe the location responsible for the debris is TMMTN not TMMAL. I don't know about the other parts such as the crankshaft or pistons etc. I'm not so sure a long block as previously pictured is going to be the chosen solution. A short block contains much fewer parts which means much fewer locations having to ramp up for production. I wish and hope the pictured long block is the solution.

Pretty sure it’s been established it will NOT BE A SHORT BLOCK! Toyota even referenced a “new engine assembly” and from a few different sources it’s been stated that turbos will already be assembled.

That is why I have stayed away from Honda. Unless the vehicle has a proven transmission, I won't buy one. CVT (not eCVTs in hybrids) are off the list of purchase for me.

Also unless very discounted, I immediately take a vehicle off the list for engine or transmission replacement in the carfax history. This before Toyota's issues.

I am not going to change in that philosophy as there is too much that can go wrong in the disassembly and reassembly process that won't show up until later, especially with all the electronics sensors and comm wiring in vehicles these days. Things that have nothing to do with the motor, like AC can be impacted and not covered under the engine replacement warranty.

Hopefully others will keep the Tundra resale values high for you guys.

TMMTN sends raw casts to TMMAL. All machining is done at TMMAL.

I stand corrected. Just rough machining is done in TN.

    Correct.

TMMMO (Missouri) does the head castings.
TMMTN (Tennessee) does the block casting.
TMMAL (Alabam) does the machining and final assembly.

Horseshit. Of course the GM is going to say there is or will be scarcity issue. Have you ever heard one say "we've got pickups coming out our ass and will make you a great deal". Every dealer of all brands is stuffed with trucks right now. I'm pretty convinced Tacomas are breeding in the parking lot as there are more there every day.

You should see the Jeep Cherokees stacked up down the street. The overflow is in a closed-up restaurant parking lot and it’s packed to the gills.

Pickups coming out of their wazoos. Feast or Famine. Out of curiosity, I inquired with the dealer about the new Land Cruiser. 14 - 16 month wait in Canada. Might as well have said 3-5 years. Means the same.

I think that’s a ‘sell you something different today’ answer. Same was being said in the US a few months ago and now you can find any LC you want. Sticker or less.

I am looking for wife a new CUV. Struggling to find one that hits the spot. Looking at a semi near Toyo dealer inventory online. 40 Tundras, 85 Tacoma's and total of 35 of everything else listed as on site or inbound.

85 Tacomas?!?! That’s absolutely nuts. And 40 Tundras isn’t chump change laying around either.
