Best Tires for Stock TRD Pro 2016

Advice on new tires for 2016 TRD Pro stock suspension and rims.

Looking at Cooper STT Pros. 295/70/18 or 305/70/18 (not sure about fit). Not planning any modifications to make fit. I do have additional room up front with the NFab bumper shown.

Live in Missouri, have to drive in all conditions.

Depends on your desire for looks too.

The stt pros are very good tires. You could probably stuff the 305s but the 295s might give a little more room if you don't want to trim at all. I have 35s and I've trimmed some bumper but I'm still rubbing (annoying) while reversing and turning

 

For a Pro (with effective 2 inch lift in the front), I would not recommend 295/70/18, even though there are some who love this size. I have 3.5 inches of lift in front and 1.5 inches in the rear (Old Man Emu) and I feel 295/70/18 Nitto Trail Grappler tires are too stuffed, especially when I have to chip away ice in between wheel well and the tires very frequently in winter months.

I would recommend GoodYear DuraTrac 295/65/18 (33 inch tires, wider than 275/70/18). I have DuraTrac on my wife's 4x2 full size Nissan van and I could vouch for its excellent winter performance.

I have been thinking the same thing and doing a little research.
I have a Pro Suspension with 2 coachbuiler shims on each front and +3 shackles in the back. I'd like to go a little bigger when the time comes but also don't want to trim anything or remove a mud flap.

 

The Michelins that it comes with are great tires. I wish they were 20" because so many guys take them off with low miles and change to a more aggressive tire and sell them dirt cheap.

 

I’m still running the stock Michelin tires on my pro. I don’t like them at all in mud and they are just “so so” off road, in general. Planning to replace them within a year. Probably 275/70/18’s. Maybe 285/70/18’s. I watch threads like this to confirm my choice.

 

Man, that bumper is begging for more aggressive tires!

 

It would be difficult to make anything wider than a 285 fit. I run 285/70R18 Nitto Exo Grapplers and have had good experiences with them in various terrain and in snow.

 

The OP has a Pro which comes with close to a 2” lift in the front. His fit may differ from a non pro

 

Subbing in for advice as well. I'm currently running 295/65 duratrac on my pro. I love the duratrac and zero complaints but after adding shims and shackles I want a 295/70. Unfortunately they do not offer that size or I'd stick with duratrac. I'm up in the air between the ridge grappler and cooper stt pro. Would love solid reviews for both. Snow, noise and wear are 3 concerns.

@Stryker770 the 295/65 duratrac were great for me if you're considering that size. No clearance issues until I added 1.25" spidertrax. Had to remove small flap after that but should be a non factor with your bumper..

 

I like the look of your truck. So do the 1.25" spidertrax make the tire stick out beyond the wheel wells.

I've been reading about tire size to the point of ad nauseum so it's good to see what other members have on stock wheels. I really like my pro rims so I'm not interested in off set. I also do not want to cut or remove anything.

I'd like to have slightly bigger OEM Michelins as well. Summer tire is fine with me but wanna keep the TRD Pro wheel look.

Yes, the tire is a hair outside the fender with 1.25 spacers. I'm currently running the same spacers. Front tire was turned slightly to the left, but you get the with the rear

Those tires look really good—that's the size I'm thinking of going with. Do you have any rubbing issues/did you have to trim anything?

 

If you add shims and shackles, I'd say go with 295/70's. I'm running a 3/1.5 and that size seems perfect for me.

 

So with my TRD rims and the 3/2 lift I have, I won't have too terribly much trimming with 295/70 Discoverer STT PRO? I really am looking for bigger but I don't want the offset to stick my wheels out and eff my truck up. Idiots in parklots do a good enough job at messing peoples cars up

 

What type of wear is your wife getting with the duratrac? Thinking of going with these for my next set of tires. I drive about 17,000 miles a year. Like to get at least 2-3 years out of a set of tires.

 

So long as you stay in the sweet spot for offset, no. Just buy a wheel with a +25 or so offset, they won’t stick out much.

 

So no go for 295/70 on my TRD rims?

 

Just add a 1.25” spacer and you’ll be good.

 

We got them only about little over a year ago, so I can't say much about the longevity yet. So far, I don't see too much of wear. Also my wife's van is 1 ton vehicle, so it's heavier than Tundra.

 

@Ted4311 Look in the wheel and tire market place, you might find someone selling some spacers

 

so those pics are a completely stock Pro with 295/65? no spacers on the wheels at all?
