i just got an 08 5.7 sequoia with 164k miles on it beginning to find things that makes me think it wasnt maintained as well as the seller said it was.

I pulled the dipstick to check the oil and noticed brown rusty particles on the end and some resistance pulling it out and putting it back in tube. Pulled it again and again brown rust.

So i pulled the dipstick tube out and blasted it with brake clean a million times and little chunks of rust were coming out.

While i was pulling the dipstick tube i noticed in the intake tube pre throttle body - there was some brownish fluid on the bottom. Didnt have much viscosity to it like oil but i assume its some kind of blowby.

So at this point im thinking my pcv valve is shot and going to replace + install a catch can BUT...im wondering my dipstick issue is truly unbunrt condensation from crankcase ventilation or something else AND is my motor a ticking time bomb now with rusty crap in it.

Do an oil change. Look at oil and filter to see if anything odd in it. Seems like easiest way to address concern.

Where did you purchase this truck from? Lots of flooding in the last few years in places like Houston Texas. Might have you a flood truck.

Texas lol. No other evidence of flood damage though i think it was just not very well maintained or driven for long periods

Update i bought new dipstick tube and changed oil. Oil was dirty but didnt see chunks of rust or any debris on filter. Also installed new pcv, old one was clogged, and installed catch can.

Might wanna post some pics of the frame. Interior brackets that are rusty are a giveaway for rust. Clean Carfax on that one?
