I got my official notice of getting a new engine a couple of weeks ago now.

Has anyone heard when this might actually start? I don't want to be the first one to get it for obvious reasons. But I also don't want this to drag on longer than it needs to so that I can get back to full use of this truck for the use that I bought it for.

    Any insight appreciated.

    Lots of stuff!
My guess is that the new engines might start rolling out as early as the end of 2024 but realistic time frame would be first and second quarters of 2025.

If you look at the performance of Toyota with the fuel line recall, that has been quite a while and we are still waiting for the parts.

This engine is significantly more complicated than a fuel line.

Hadnt thought about it but all the trucks getting motors now until the Long Blocks arrive are Short Blocks. Hmmm..... (( Thought they are still replacing anything that oil touched along with the Short Block. Just the long way around ))

My LC has a center diff lock, in addition to rear diff lock. I really need to get it into some snow to see what’s up with all that.

Subaru or Volvo AWD will be better in "some snow". High clearance, diff locks, big AT/MT tires and appropriate engine is better in "a lot of snow". A-TRAC is really mediocre. People love Subaru/Volvo in snow for a reason.

Also I take a winch over rear locker any winter day. It pulls reliably and with ease if not you then someone else. Happens all the time to me.

Put an NRA sticker on it. I have owned 2 Prius. They were parked next to a Harley and lifted Wrangler in the garage. I made money on them with companies that paid business mileage instead of providing a vehicle. Right tool for the job. Also fun watching folks speed up when you pass them on the highways. I was a lead foot in those slow cars and still got near 40mpg.

I’d be absolutely furious if it happened to me during hunting season haha Plus, I hunt about 3hrs+ from the closest Toyota dealer and where there is practically zero cell service for miles. Very very few people. My truck and I would be stuck out there for some time.

You won’t be able to wrench your way out of a spun bearing on the side of the road either. I’ve got about the worst luck I’ve seen so I’ll be crossing my fingers every time I drive 6-7hrs to elk camp. I actually leave for bow elk/deer here in a few weeks. No way around it though so just have to send it!

Yes. Hunting season, especially the weeks of September and November would be worst time. I have no problem missing work however.

Between hunting season coming up and my four wheeling trip to Hatfield, I might start making some calls to see if any local dealerships have a sufficient loaner. Ideally another Tundra, but a Tacoma would do. I know they frown upon towing anything with a rental so I have to tread carefully there. Technically I could throw my four wheeler in the bed of a Tundra, but the lack of a tailgate rating makes me nervous, an 850CC Can Am is a heavy beast. I'd prefer not to be stranded in a remote area with no cell service at some random hour when nobody is on the road. 8 hour road trip to the mountains coming up at the end of September, guess I should make some calls. As much as it would suck to have my truck sitting for months waiting on a recall, if I was at least in something comparable I would be happy. Paying my car payment and driving a prius or a corolla would just piss me off more.

What are the long block motors you speak of? I haven't heard of this before.

that just means a complete and total new motor , rather than just a new part of one (short block)

I have hope for the 26 Tundra. Hopefully they take all the cosmetic critiques to heart, and fine tune the engine manufacturing.

Does a new long block engine replacement include the transmission as well?

I ask because my transmission acts like the fluid is low. It surges after I let off on the gas and the apply gas again. I've had it in for the"reprogramming" TSB and it didn't help. I know the transmission is sealed.

I would think that if any Gen 3 engine dies now, it will be fixed given this recall and the issues this has created for Toyota. I couldn't see them saying no to a hybrid truck that has gone over their warranty. Even if it is not included in the recall or subsequent recalls. The engine is the same throughout the trucks. Toyota was able to walk the fine line in the name of "Safety" to exclude the hybrids on what really is a technicality that they can still steer and brake enough so the driver can get off the highway. Many hybrid owners would probably want to challenge that.

If the owner gets an issue from the dealership, they just need to contact customer service and press the point of the recall.

Imagine a straight 6 NA engine trying to move the massive Tundra! :)

If you look over at the Ram camp and the new hurricane engine, It looks pretty cool. Twin Turbo inline 6.

Remember the Chrysler slant 6, I had one and it was a beast. Anyway, Ram might be onto something with this engine.

I think Toyota is all in on the v35 unfortunately. I would love a straight 6 variant. Even if it’s balls slow like my 80 series.
