I just got a brand new 2024 Tundra Limited last week and after looking into the best ways to maintain it, I’m debating whether to do System X Ceramic Coat by a guy in town, Xpel full front (hood fenders grill mirror backs etc), or both. Got quoted $1100 for ceramic and $2500 for ppf. I drive ~330 miles to Louisiana and back 1-2 times a month so the ppf is appealing for rock damage etc, but I’m deciding whether its actually worth the $2500 and the risk of it yellowing in 4 years and stripping some paint on removal. I’m pretty much decided on the ceramic to go ahead and do it just to help prevent bug damage and make washing and upkeep a lot easier. What are you guys’ thoughts? Am I obsessing over little things by spending $2500 on ppf?

The new generation PFF is so much better. And if it is the most recent generation, it is self healing - the sun will blend the scratch or ding away. Or you can use a heat gun to do it quickly

I don't know how much I would get but if I had a new tundra I would at least get it across the front of the hood and the places where you're most likely to get rock chips

mine is 18 years old and has over 300,000 miles. I just had the hood, roof and tailgate repainted. You may not have yours that long or for that many miles, but let me tell you that thing was pelted mercilessly along the front edge of the hood back to a foot from the front edge, the plastic bumper, etc. . if you keep your truck five years, I'm sure you would regret not getting it

The ceramic coating is great to maintain the finish, but I don't believe it will help you with rock chips like PFF will

A friend of mine just spent quite a chunk of change on a brand new Corvette as his retirement gift to himself. He did a full ceramic coating and the PFF. I guess if you're gonna spend that kind of money then hell yes

we're also in Bama by the way

Don’t modify the banks truck! If you have the title in hand and plan to keep it more than 4ish years go for it otherwise I would pass on both and put the money towards the bank note.

Ceramic won't help with rock/bug damage. I did partial ppf but complete ceramic

Everything painted on the front of the truck by the grill, front fenders/flares, hood, headlights, rocker panels, rear fender flares, and lower rear bedsides all wrapped in Legendary Prime Plus PPF which is self healing and comes with a 12 year warranty. The entire truck was coated with BC 7, a 5+ year ceramic coating. The front and rear side windows, and rear window all had ceramic tint installed. Total price was $2k, would do it again in a heartbeat, Toyota paint is soft.

Washing my truck is much easier with the ppf and ceramic coating. I use a ryobi hand blower to air dry it in a few minutes. I applied Gyeon Rim to the wheels, and Gyeon View to the front windshield. Remaining windows i applied Adams Graphene Ceramic Advanced Spray Coating.

I went with Majestic Solutions - Carbon X 7Yr Ceramic / Graphene Coating. So far its been great and no stuck on bugs, tar, leaf stains, etc.........Dont see how it would possibly protect against rock chips or harder strikes than bugs. Overall I'm glad I did this..............Simple maintenance washes keep it looking great and no need for wax and polishing. Water beads off always.

Your pricing seems on par with quotes in my area (Raleigh NC). I opted to not go with the PPF Tape, because you can see the raised edges, and it was very expensive. I just did the Ceramic / Graphene coating full truck, which was still in the $1000-$1200 range. I guess we all have different budgets and priorities.

My tesla is fully PPF'd and its amazing. Everything just wipes off, can still apply wax on top and its self healing. I'm in AZ and rocks have hit the PPF. Those areas in the PPF are ripped off but the paint underneath was untouched.

    PPF over Ceramic.

    Ceramic over nothing.

Neither if you actually drive the truck offroad.

Highly recommend ceramic coating. It makes maintaining a clean vehicle so much more effortless.

What do you mean by Ceramic over nothing? And why zero protection if you drive offroad?

    Too many, but not enough....
I did ppf on my headlights when I put the TRD Pros on for 100 bucks along with the small panels directly under the headlights on my 2.5 gen, totally worth it since that's 99% where all the damage will be. I wouldn't say it's worth it for the whole truck but I do offroad.

    Ceramic is better than nothing.

And cause you’re gonna just ruin the paint when you pinstripe it.

Ceramic doesn’t add paint protection. It simply allows for a much easier wash by minimizing oils, debris, bugs to stick to the paint.

It adds .1-5 mils of essentially a clear coat that washes away over time. So yes it'll hold surface scratches in there until it fades off/paint corrected.

It’s not gonna protect it for the off road usage as implied. Just PPF it to protect it and then ceramic or for ease of washing

As someone who has owned a lot of cars and done each or both to them. It’s not worth it

Cermaic coat looks great but it really doesn’t last that long.

PPF is good. But I’d pay for full coverage. I did partial PPF one time and I hated it. To clarify not partial like front or rear only, but a seam running across the middle of the panel.

Which ceramic did you use? How did you maintain it?

And I agree. I did my full hood, pillars, mirror caps, bottom half of doors. Should have done the entire vehicle

The newer ppf is good for 8-10 years right? I wonder what the cost of removal is, it has to be labor intensive

Xpel fusion plus. It’s okay. It looked fantastic for a good 2 months. But the water beading and ease of use wasn’t there for me

It’s a buy once cry once if you’re keeping it forever!! If not, spray wax every wash and call it lol. Do a good paint correction before sale.

Ceramic coating is a waste of money unless you plan on hand washing.
