How much of a mileage improvement have you seen on the bypass? It's always been in the back of my mind, just wasn't sure if the juice was worth the squeeze. I wonder how much cooler mine would run with the Mishimoto radiator.

    Too many mods to come

Definitely worth the cooler iat temps and coolant temps. Easy mod definitely recommend

Now can you explain it to me like I’m a dog?

I always forget that I did this mod until someone mentions it on this thread. Definitely a good, cheap one to do for anyone in warmer climates. Or psychos that outrun Raptors.

Take your engine cover off and look at your throttle body...there are x2hoses bringing coolant in and out of it...the purpose is for extreme temperature swings like it's -50° and you drive into your garage that's at 50° (100° delta) and you then drive again after the engine cooled off...the throttlebody plate can create condensation and freeze, thusly disabling your engine from working properly...the coolant (at nearly 200°) ensures the throttlebody stays functioning in all temperatures...many do not live in extreme temperatures and if you don't, you can remove the coolant lines (connect the two hoses together) on the TB, you're essentially reducing the temperatures of air the coolant creates, into your engine, thusly making more power, increasing throttle response, and even increasing efficiency...remove the coolant from the TB, or bypassing it, will make you smile...I must warn you though, it only takes 5 min to do so you may not need as many beers as you'd think...

You're breathing in at least 100° less than leaving it installed...I gained maybe 1.5-3 mpg going 85 in 85° temps...I've done this trip x4 and have data for it all...it was all pretty even until this trip did the bypass on my 2uz 4runner too and it's very happy. You'll be fine anywhere CO...I suspect :monocle:

Stock, with a few cosmetic mods.
Finally got to fixing my bouncy driving lights. Pulled out the liners, 10mm and 1 12mm. 12mm took a little torque to loosen. Zip tied it towards the bottom rather than the inside as suggested in another thread. Only because of the wear pattern on my front facia. The two 10mm bolts inside the fender well bolt into a bracket that will fall loose when you remove the liner. In order to secure that bracket to the liner for reassembly I just duct taped it to the inside of the liner, as shown. Easy mod, and fixed the bouncy lights. Crap oem system btw, but whatever.

    Interesting
    Thanks for the breakdown

    I live in Oregon

Lows of 20 degrees, highs of 100 degrees.
    Truck lives outside.

Is that mod something I should or should not consider doing?

What other temp variables should I know or consider?

You're likely good to go...during winter months, due to your proximity to the ocean and water abounding, you could always route the hoses right back and reverse it...you don't remove any hoses persey, just reroute.

No concerns on any other temperatures...

    Nice
I'm in the southern willamette valley foothills, climate is very moderate

I still don't completely understand fully the pros and cons of looping those hoses but I am trying to learn on this great forum. Just yesterday I realized what dirty sevens meant as I read your mods and thought about it for a second.

Great forum with a ton of info, thanks all

Instead of hot coolant going through your throttle body and heating it up, you just connect the two hoses together and bypass the throttle body. That’s it. Pros are cooler throttle body so cooler air so more power (theoretically). Cons is maybe potentially having your throttle body condensate in cold weather and maybe freezing up (theoretically).

Got bored and did this in the 100* heat under a tree. Under 15mins. Would have been less but one of the clamps was upside down and required me to unbolt the TB to get access to it.

I did my bypass years ago, got ~2mpg better on 37s. Probably the same improvement now that I'm on 40s, I get 12-13mpg nowadays

If I get that kinda mileage increase I may actually quit complaining about the mileage on these trucks.

Yeah I'd say so. That's a lot out of a 350. Especially stock internals.

No, never heard of an LS. Unless you're referring to a Light Switch. I've heard of those before. Even used them once or twice.
Anyway, I'm referring to THIS 350. Not an LS1. Completely different animal. But thanks anyway.

Maybe the tundra motor identifies as an LS? Did you ever consider that?
