So I screwed up this evening; went to replace my driver side dome light in the overhead console. I have led’s that I have been using since new. Well apparently the bulb wasn’t lined up properly and I went to install it. Pushed the entire socket / metal clips up into the cavity and it’s ruined. I am going to try to live with it but I took the reflector plate out and it’s fubar’ed. How hard is it to replace the overhead console and do I have to remove the headliner to do so. I assume it’s going to be expensive as well. Anyone tackled this and have some advice?

Can you not pop out the chrome piece and fix it? Youtube for decent visual instructions.

I don’t believe so - I have the chrome reflector plate out and not sure what happened but it’s messed up. I will check out the YouTube videos but not sure it will be repairable…..

Aluminum foil makes an excellent improvised reflector plate in situations like that.

Yeah I got it out; it’s fucked. Not really sure how it happened but the clip is mangled. Plastic piece that ties the two poles together is missing. The metal connections are pushed out of their tracks and it’s a general mess. I reinstalled and will source a used one

I did the same thing a few years ago. There are 4 torx screws that support it. Easy to replace. I found a used one on eBay and replaced it. If/when I replace the crappy OEM lights with LEDs, I’ll likely pull it down so I don’t push them too far again.
