Speaking of that Datsun, I saw an awesome Mitsubishi pickup taking the kids out for pho last night. Slammed, and in otherwise OEM+ condition. Gorgeous rust-free looking truck. I'd love to do something like that.

Drove a bunch of mini trucks in high school. Almost bought one for myself. Isuzu had a sweet little truck. The Mazdas were cool, even if they were Ranger cousins. The Mitsubishis / Dodge D50s looked like the Mazdas. S10 was kinda lame, but quite a few V8 swaps driving around helped.

Here in the wet PacNW, i used to get all my axle housings and other suspension stuff powercoated. It started getting expensive over the years (plus touch ups were a pain), so i switched to Rustoleum. Since then i’ve never looked back. I’ve sprayed complete multiple frames. I always use a gloss black because after about 5~10 years it faded out to a handsome satin sheen.

Rustoleum is great as long as you soak whatever your painting down in alcohol before you prime it. If it isn't 1,000% clean it doesn't matter what type of paint or how much you paid for it it's just going to eventually flake rust or corrode off. But as far as paints go rustoleum isn't that bad of a choice.

Unless something got shipped in from a salt state, most everything here in oregon is rust free. Sure you can get rusty sheetmetal, but that's usually from vehicles that were manufactured before they started using galvanized panels. So it's pretty easy to get the metal clean. I'll usually clean off whatever i'm going to paint with lacquer thinner, then wipe down with a grease and wax remover, then go after it with a primer. I've sprayed a few frames with the old school PPG DP primer (from the 90's), and i really liked the stuff. Not so much their later DEQ'd formula. For lower budget builds, i've kinda quit using PPG. It was just too expensive. I did buy a quart of SPI (Southern Polyurethanes Inc) epoxy primer last year. It's difficult to spray without getting mad orange peel, but i'm new to their product so i'm guessing that i'm just using it wrong? What i do like about their primer is that it's easy to block sand. It's almost like it's halfway between a primer and a surfacer. It also costs waaaay less than PPG. And rustoleum is just plain inexpensive compared to either.

Yep, what he said. I wash everything down in denatured alcohol (recently renamed "Fuel" by Lowes (?)) before spraying with Rustoleum. I then use Rustoleum red primer for rusty metals followed by whatever Rustoleum gloss color I decide to use. Over the years this process has produced the most consistently positive results. Here's another tip, get yourself a can rattler rather than trying to shake it by hand.

Dr Google says it's a lug nut for 22.5" wheels.

I'm trying to decide if I need to spend $200 on a different shelf for my grill. Turns out 32lbs of pork is pushing its limit.

I just turned on the tv and saw that there’s a hot sauce symposium in portland this weekend. The only thing is i don’t really want to drive the 30 minutes to PDX.
