Does anyone really know what they do on one of these? If it’s anything more than an oil change, I just wanna do it myself. I mean, the real meat and bones, not all the BS stuff like "checked this and that". Do we have any real Toyota mechanics who can answer because when it comes to this first check in, something like "ya, they actually do a thoroughly check of everything to make sure everything is fine from the factory after 5K miles"

This is the meat of it, the rest here is just a rant about how unhappy I am with my local dealer and Toyota in general, one of the worst 1st year experiences I have even had owning a new car (and I’ve bought at least 20 new cars in my life).

    This may be a TLDR

    …..

Understand, a trip to my dealer is a bit of a voyage for me, I’m not very close.

I’ve had my Tundra exactly a year now with 5500 miles and my maint light popped on and Toyota/my dealer started spamming about doing it (along with the absolute non-stop spam via text and email I’ve received from them on all kinds of stuff). I really don’t want to deal with this dealer anymore (McCords), of the 3 services I’ve had, they have all been absolute disasters.

Here’s the problem, at the 6-month mark of ownership (last Jan), they spammed me about this Toyota Care maint so I actually scheduled the Tundra in for the first Toyota Care and threw on all my recalls to be done with it. I got the Tundra back and continue to get spammed by the app about most the recalls. When I called them up a few days back about why I’m being spammed again about the Care maintenance, it turned out, they didn’t even do it AT ALL 6 months ago. So ya, I thought I had an oil change 6 months ago and that dealer didn’t tell me at all that it hadn’t been done, I just assumed like any of the other hundreds of oil changes I’ve had from dealers on any of the ~20 brand new cars I’ve owned in my life that it had been done like I scheduled the appointment specifically to be done. But they claim they did several recalls that the Toyota app was spamming me had not been done (did they even do them??? Who f’ing knows).

By the way, the first bad experience I had with them was when I first bought the Truck, had to schedule install of the rear gate extender (I didn’t know at the time how easy it was), they told me it would take an hour, when I showed up first thing in the morning, they told me they needed the truck all day long and I had no transportation whatsoever. I got pissed at them and took the thing home and easily installed the thing myself in 30 minutes. Absolutely f’ing pissed me off, waste of my time.

Ya they change the oil at 5 thousand miles. I did mine every 6 months regardless of my mileage as I do not drive much so I really paid for two and Toyota paid for two. They just rotate tires and check filters, brakes, tires, check for leaks and top off fluids which amounts to windshield washer fluid.
The emails you can get them to stop simply but opting out and unsubscribe and have the dealer remove your email address, but in doing so you miss out receiving recalls and other STUFF!!:)

A lot of the information is in the owners manual. It explains the oil changes and when the oil should be changed. Wife and I just bought a new truck and I do not have to pay for oil changes for 5 years so my two a year and tire rotation is free even if I take it to another dealer!!:) (it’s not a Tundra)

but when Toyota says oil changes for the first two years it really boils down up grand total of two whole oil changes.

sorry about the misinformation. They rotate your tires at 5 thousand miles and change oil at ten grand or once a year. Sorry about that!!!

    Lots of stuff!
This picture might help to determine all that they do.

When I took mine in for the first one, I got the added bonus of greasy hand prints all over my hood!

I added a dealy at the end of my post as I forgot what they do. It’s a tire rotation at five thousand miles and check fluids and go over what they can see,, brakes, tires, and stuff like that. They change the oil at 10,000 miles or once a year which boils down to a total of two oil changes for two years of service.

Uhh....no they don't. At least not as part of the 5K Toyota Care visit. OCI per Toyota is 10K miles for "normal service." (5K for severe service) You won't automatically get an oil change at 5K.
Now, will some dealers do it if you ask them? Sure, some will.
My dealer is 45 minutes away and I did my own oil and filter changes at 1K and 5K. I will continue to do my own oil changes.

My 5K Toyota Care dealer visit consisted of a tire rotation, a fluids check, and that's it.
Beyond that, one recall fix (transmission reprogram) and programming and delivery of my 2nd key fob.

If you want to see what the dealer actually did on your service trip, you can go to the Toyota Owners web site and look up your service record. Doesn’t guarantee they actually did the service documented, but at least you can verify what you thought they did. https://www.toyota.com/owners/my-vehicle/service-history-user

As far as service schedule goes, I’ve owned a lot of new vehicles too, but don’t assume anything about these new warranties. The warranty schedule says to change the oil/filter at 10,000 miles or one year. At 5,000 miles or 6 months also take it in for service (oil change not included). At 5 months my dealer texted to make an appointment for my 6 months service. I also told the I wanted an oil change with filter. I only had 2,000 miles but they did it anyway and my service record show 10,000 mile service at no charge. You basically get 2 free oil changes. One at 10,000 miles and one at 20,000 miles. Now you will see other variations of this depending on the dealer, but this is what mine did.

I’ve attached an excerpt out of the Warranty and Maintenance manual (you can also see this at Toyota Owners web site).

    Hope this helps.

When all else fails read the directions. I know what they do as I have had 6 Tundras since 2010 and have a wonderful service dept at one dealer we take all our Toyotas to. Now that is only one and the wife is looking for a change and her final car so a Cadillac is looking more promising !!!:)

If you'll notice, my reply posted at the exact same time as yours did, therefore I had not read your reply prior to posting mine.
No cows or other barnyard animals being had here my friend. We're all good, cheers!

And more than likely they don't rotate your tires, even tho they say they do. I mark my front tires with a paint marker to verify the service they are supposed to do gets done. I also changed my oil at 1k & 5K miles. I'm letting them change the oil at 10k here pretty soon, but will be changing my oil at every other service until Toyota care is complete, then I'll change it every 5k myself.

I looked up my 2023 Hybrid's service record and there was nothing posted by the dealer. It has 15000 miles and I have brought it to the dealer for each of the 5000 miles services and the 10000 mile oil change. So I guess it's just up to each individual dealer if they want to participate in recording and uploading each Toyota service visit.
