I don’t remember reading anything about transmission failures with the RL. My guess is they beefed the transmission and unibody up? But I’m not sure. If I was choosing between a Maverick and the RL for a unibody truck, I’d definitely go RL. They seem to hold up well.

Ours was a 2000 and if one could get an engine like this today, it would be great. That thing would not stop after 300k and running boost at 25 psi. It was a beast but ultimately, the days of the stinky diesel were short lived. Now we are surrounded with EV's that don't smell or rattle.

I found the Ridgeline to be okay, it would handle loads similar to the Tundra does. I found the tech to be dated and sluggish when it worked. The locking trunk in the bed was cool and so was the tailgate that opened to the side like a door. It was noted that the spare is in the little compartment so if you are loaded and get a flat, you would need to unload the truck to get at the spare.

The unibody was developed by the engineer that worked at GM on the Avalanche, it was quite stout with all the stiffeners. It certainly didn't feel floppy even with the trailer and we used a WDH as well.

The engine was okay and now they have a 9 speed trans rather than the 6 speed that we had. If they stuck a turbo on it, I am sure things would be different.

Ours had some paint coming off the door edges. I took it to the dealer and they called a paint specialist and in a bout 10 minutes, they had a plan to repaint the doors. No delays in deciding to fix the paint. They just did it which was amazing service. They even fixed a chewed ABS wire at no charge. They spoiled us and then we get Toyota!

Today I spoke to two service managers at two dealerships. They tell me that Toyota has not yet made the decision as to what will be done, short block, long block, or a complete engine. To make it worse, as polite as I was, they both wreaked of attitude. I have a bad feeling about this ordeal. Meanwhile, I received my safety recall notice for my 22 1794 with 10k miles.

With average dealer doing 800-900 replacements all the man years of labor each dealership will have to provide is a deal killer for short blocks. Even if Toyota throws money at them mechanics are in short supply surging up with not be that easy

My dealers service department could not find their pecker in the dark. So anything they say I would take with a grain of salt.

There should be two threads- One for those that have a Gen3 and one for those that don’t.

A buddy of mine just bought his second Ridgeline. His first made it to 140k and needed a tranny (Is that word OK to use?). The wifey had 2 Acura MDXs and we racked up about 200k on her 2 while keeping the miles off my Tundra and GX. The AWD system in the Acura/Honda is pretty good in snow n stuff. Yes- I am adding to the non Tundra info. Apologies

There's over 1200 Toyota dealerships in the US. That means the average would be closer to 80 per dealer. Please let me know if my math is incorrect. But do it quickly before this thread gets dumped for being unnecessary. :)

Not too much has happened since the recall letters came out. Now it's a waiting game until something else gets reported.

I don't think transmission issues are uncommon on the shared Odyssey/Ridgeline/Pilot platform.

But if I get a new engine, does that change how big of a tire I can fit with no lift? What about while running 5w30? Will that affect my MPG? If I throw garlic into my intake, will it keep the silver out of my Blackstone report?

I was actually thinking about rounding up one of the new Sequoia Pros if I could find one and trade in the GX. That is on hold now until all of this gets sorted. I'm usually not such a beta male, but having GM lifter issues (6.2) in the past has beat me into submission.

I have so many questions. Would love to hear from people and what their experiences have been with their engine. I have 35,000 miles on mine and it's been running perfectly.

My only concern is whether or not replacing it is going to screw anything up. I'd love to have a new engine but will it just open a can of worms if we get a mechanic who makes a mistake? Should we have options for getting compensated financially instead of taking a new engine? For example I have 100,000 mile warranty that should cover my original engine I wouldn't mind taking cash instead as long as my original warranty continues to cover my existing engine. Or do you think the failures they are talking about can hit later and be dangerous?

I'd really like to hear what everyone has to say on this issue. BTW, I'm not selling the truck because I have a 1.9% interest rate and I owe very little money on it.... and I love my truck!

As did I. How much more do we have to read about Ridgelines before learning when the remedy is ready?

I could talk about LXs, GXs, FJs, Tundras, or lifter dropping GMs. I shared all of my vast Ridgeline knowledge above. I'll stop- just waiting around like the rest of you gents.

So far so good with 700ish miles on the LZ0 as well. The truck is rock solid. Just had window tint installed, some extra backup lights, and a shorty antenna b/c I'm tired of the long antenna hitting the water pipes in the parking garage.
