Which tech is the really the best? I’ve been doing some research on which type programmer i want to use. I would like to hear from actual users what they use and why? It seems that Christa EVO has expanded their functionality in that it can read codes and provide limited service support. But Techstream does all this and so much more provided you have the cable and a basic pc.

So what do you use? Tell me about it!!

I use Techstream for a lot of things. Key programming (programmed 2 extra keys on my 23 Tundra), software updates, etc., but I am comfortable with the program, have a good cable, and will pay for a short TIS subscription when needed.

I also have Carista and other OBD bluetooth dongles and keep them in my cars at all times. Used one to clear a code when offroading in my Land Cruiser a couple weeks ago.

Are you planning on paying the monthly Carista subscription?

VXDiag would be the lowest $ cable I would recommend. A Mongoose cable is ideal. Definitely do not buy the clear ones off of ebay/Amazon. They have very limited functions.

Will this Mongoose Cable work with *any* version of Techstream?

I have used an official Mongoose cable with hacked Techstream, borrowed from a mechanic friend.

I personally own the VXdiag cable and it works great.

Tried a few of the cheap cables and they all did basic functions, but were very limited. I would not trust them.

Did you have to add the drivers manually or did the Mongoose cable option show up in the interface dialog in that Techstream? I will order the cable you recommend if this is easy to change the interface choice in the software.

what about a cable from tactrix? According to their compatibility chart it works with Techstream ( https://www.tactrix.com/index.php?o...ategory_id=6&Itemid=53&redirected=1&Itemid=53 ) I hadn’t found the VXDiag cable yet. Do you have a link for that?
I’m not sure that I’m into paying Carista app fees all the time…

Vxdiag comes with drivers and hacked techstream. The Mongoose needed its own drivers that I was able to download online (been a few years but that is what I recall). The VXdiag works awesome on my old 64 bit windows laptop
