Cheating not cheering. The spell checker and auto picker in latest Android is totally nuts. Make me post like English is not in my top 10 languages.

Glad you guys are getting new engines, glad Toyota is trying to make it right but how long before us hybrid guys get put on the recall?

Probably 2028. After initial 102k are done.

I am guessing you have a failure you jump to the front of the line. But that is not really a great way to jump the line

Every Toyota fan who got used to unquestionable bulletproof longevity over the last 30 years and is now wondering if that’s still the case moving forward is watching this unfold very closely and for good reason.

Try to not treat every criticism of Toyota, the truck itself, and/or the engine as a personal attack. The people who stick around this forum the most have pretty thick skin and don’t take themselves too seriously. A little levity is a good thing.

Spoke to my service manager today, he said Toyota has not confirmed with him that they are doing long blocks. Said he is not aware of a “list” and that Toyota will repair the trucks that fail free of charge but will likely not replace all 100,000 engines unless they fail.

    just the messenger.

How about the liability aspect? Truck stops on the highway and causes accident. This is the reason why Toyota said they'll be replacing engines before they fail.

Service manager didn't had enough coffee this morning

Makes sense, the remedy is based on a safety recall, not the reliability aspect. Addressing the issue after it fails is a major liability for Toyota if something happens.

    Lots of stuff!
This statement seems to counter what the recall letter says.

Can you imagine if Toyota pulls the recall notice citing that it is no longer a "safety" issue or something like that and they don't need to do anything unless the engine fails!

Maybe they need to replace the failed engines with hybrids so the next time it happens, the drivers can get to the side of the road :)

Yup the recall actually says... "Approximately, 102,000 Toyota and Lexus branded vehicles are involved in this recall in the U.S...For all involved vehicles, Toyota and Lexus dealers will replace the engine with a new one at no cost to customers." That's explicitly every engine of the involved vehicles, not just the failed ones.

Probably never. Toyota is not trying to make anything right. They are covering their rear, hence safety recall. Hybrid owners are SOL. Extend your warranty or sell before it expires, that’s if the burrs that become loose debris don’t get you first.

I have a 2023 Platinum Crewmax 4x4. It has a build date of January 2023 within the recall dates yet I have not received any notices and its not listed as a recall issue on Toyota website.

Anyone else in the same boat?

Are you intentionally trying to confuse people by starting a new thread with the same exact title as another thread that is already up to 27 pages that is clearly on the first page?

Gotta pull the band aid off slowly lol. Once the ‘25s hit the lots, the recall will be expanded (I think I need a bigger tin foil hat).

Don't think this is correct. I talked to my non-dealer Toyota mechanic who has been pretty well informed on this. He said the dealerships will be installing "new crate motors" for those that are part of the recall. I remember hearing that "crate motor" term growing up, but not sure what that means in today's parlance.
He also said for those not in the recall that fail outside warranty it is TBD what will happen to those owners as the dealerships don't have a warranty reimbursement from Toyota NA. Maybe case by case. Unfortunately this is why I have a deposit on a new Land Cruiser and just can't get behind getting a new Tundra. Still too much unresolved.

    Can't say I completely disagree

A lot of Youtubers claiming "Toyota is doing the right thing to restore their reputation of reliability"
I'm sorry I can't square that with how they are treating the Hybrid owners. I mean could you imagine being one of those first TRD Pro owners that plunked down massive deposits and paid huge markups pushing some into the six figures. These were the ultimate Toyota Fans and Toyota is showing them the back of the hand. It's not contempt, but they are basically telling TRD Pro owners don't worry, just don't take that thing off road or anywhere our tow truck can't come get you.
They should say something to them or offer them something to give them some faith. But it's just silence, no inspection, no extended warranty, no nothing for them.

I think those youtubers claiming "Toyota is doing the right thing" seem more interested in the invite to the next
Toyota press event than representing the voice of the consumer.

Keep an eye out on the Transmission failures on the Land Cruiser/Tacomas, they are not dribbling in as quickly as the Tundra bearing issues but they are dribbling in. Luckily it seems like people are hopefully learning that along with talking about it on a forum, report it to NHTSA.

I crawled around in a few Landcruisers at the dealership while buying one of the kids a Corolla, I like the size and feel of them, I am going to give it a couple of years or so, and see what if anything pops up. Luckily I don't have to buy anything and have plenty of life left in the truck.

I agree 100%. YouTubers don’t want to bite the hand that feeds them, I get it.

I get why hybrids are not part of the safety recall. A less expensive way for Toyota to deal with Hybrid owners, rather than adding us to the recall, is to offer us a lifetime warranty for this specific issue. This would at least reassure us we will be taken care of and maybe protect our resale value. They could also recall hybrids down the road. Maybe in different phases, obviously the safety issue needs to be handled first. If that’s what they plan on doing then tell us that. For now I can’t help but think they have no plan for the hybrids.

My truck was made in 05/24. Is it going to explode? When did engines switch PNs? What is going on?

    I am so scared.

100% correct. I'm worried, some solace in the hope is transmission easier to get and swap than an engine. However, I think availability of a replacement transmission is questionable from what I've read.

This is true, they won't be disassembling a transmission all over the shop floor and putting it back together...lol

Toyota knew about this issue at least a year ago. It's kind of surprising they would still carry on without any changes for an entire year.
