I was just looking at Nitto's website at the ridge grapplers and it shows them now being offered in a 285/70r18 has anyone else seen this or can confirm this?

It looks like it's about 10 lb lighter than 295/70/18. That a big plus for power/mpg.

I saw that also. If this is true it will likely be my next tire.

I can see it on there site as well. Can't find them for sale anywhere though. These will be the size I go with if they are available soon. I need tires before winter in the PNW comes around.

Just got an email from Nitto:

The Ridge Grappler LT285/70R18 became available on 9/6. We have received calls and emails similar to yours regarding availability.

It is likely that the dealer and/or the distributor they get their Nitto tires from has not updated their system to show as the tire being available.

I did confirm with both of our warehouses that the tire is available and in stock for order. Unfortunately we do not sell directly to consumers. Our tires are sold through distributors who then sell them to dealers. Provide the product code to the dealer of 217370. This may better assist them in locating the tire for you

10lbs lighter and you are only losing .3" vs. the 295. That might be worth considering.

I couldn't find the tires for sale online as well. So I sent a message to Discount tire direct and they say that they can get them with a 7-10 day lead time shipped to your door. This tire size is the happy medium between the 295 (34.3 x 11.8) and 275 (33.2 x 11). The 285 comes out to 34 x 11.5. And like cphilo mentioned above, ~10lbs lighter than the 295 and similar weight to the 275 (~59lbs). I'm all in...

I was planning on going this size and tire when my ko2s wear out. Hopefully they're as good as the ko2s. I get into some nasty stuff winter and spring.

Not sure what the forum rules are regarding listing prices but it's cheaper than the listed price they have online (DTD) for the 295. PM sent your way Godlesspro.

    LT295/70R18 D34.29 W11.77 69.44lbs

The above specs from Nitto's site.

At only a 1/4" narrower and shorter isn't much and the weight savings would be great. This is going to be my size I'm pretty sure.

If you don't mind...could you add me to the pm list? Thanks

The quote I got was $302.53 per tire shipped out the door without the road hazard warranty. No taxes and free shipping. I live in Cali so depending where you live you might have to add taxes.

I debated long and hard between many tire sizes for my TRD Pro. Preferred the lighter 275/70 for better performance, MPG savings and not having to make speedo adjustments but thought they were a tad too skinny. Loved the size of the 295/70 but worried about the weight bogging down the 5.7L (mixed reactions from 295 owners), MPG (this is my DD) and speedo correction. Then started down the road with the 285/65 but wanted more sidewall rubber; 305/65 but thought they were too wide (12.2) and close to the UCA mounted on a stock TRD pro rim.....arrrgggg! Looked at 285/70's but at the time it was only available in Toyo MTs (wanted to stay away from an MT), and the Exo Grappler (wanted something a bit more aggressive and didn't care for the sidewall design). Then Nitto saved the day with the ridge grappler in 285/70 which is only ~1.5 lbs heavier than the 275, and only ~1/4" less than the 295 in both width and diatmeter. An aggressive good looking AT hybrid design and perfect size that fits "my" wants/needs with many good reviews....damn Im picky...haha

I'm in the same spot. Was looking at STT Pros in 295/70/18, but worried about getting bogged down at close to 70 lbs a piece and rubbing UCA at 12" wide. These 285/70's might be the ticket. Hopefully someone will have a nice review in the near future.

I have to admit I was a little shocked at the noticeable loss of power when I swapped my stock, P-rated Michelins to the 275/70 Ridge Grapplers. Yes, I absolutely love the look of the RGs and the 10 plies will pay dividends off road on the jagged rocks, but man it was much more peppy with the Michelins...

Just to let you know, I have exo grapplers in 285/70/18 and when mounted on a 9" wide wheel, they measure out out to about 33.5" tall. The 34" tall measurement they got was from them mounting them on a 8.5" wide wheel.

I have been on the fence between the 285/65, 285/70 and 305/65. I've pretty much ruled out the 305's at this point and thought I was set on the 285/65 STT Pro (They run a little larger in size).. The 285/70 is very appealing, but I'm concerend with Nitto. I had a set of the Terra Grappler's on my Jeep JKU several years back and hated every second of them. Pretty much only good on dry roads, everything else was bad in my opinion. They did ride smooth. I am still eyeing the Ridge Grappler, but I'm hesetant.

Yes. I decided to pull the trigger and try them out. I was torn between the 295 and 275, that the new 285 was a no brainer for me since it was a happy medium between the two. I especially liked that the 285 is only 1.5 lbs heavier than the 275, and yet almost 10lbs lighter than the 295, but closer to the dimensions of the 295.

I do like the idea of the extra 0.79" height and 0.52" width (with no rubbing) you get with the 285/70s, but at +$90 per tire compared to the 275/70s ($360 extra for 4), I just don't think it is worth it IMO.

I wasn't aware the 275/70 RG was going as low as $215 per tire?! Everywhere I looked was showing $245 a pop (lowest was actually $230 but they charge an extra ~$25 for shipping which essentially brought it over $245). This brought the difference to more like ~$58-60/tire ($230 extra for 4) which makes the pill a lot more easier to swallow. But if you can find the RG 275 for less than $215 OTD and could save $360, then yes, you bring up a good point and its definitely something to consider...yet maybe for some the extra $230 is also a deal breaker and don't see the value of the extra height and width the 285 offers over the 275.

For sure! Will post pics when I get them installed...
