I bought a one owner 03 Tundra limited 4.7 V8 with 144k. Took it on a 800 mile trip.when back home, it started to high idle. read advice colums on resetting idle but nothing specific to my truck, just generic for all Toyotas...can someone point me in the right direction? Should i try the 'turn key on,shut, turn key on,shut, start, etc' method or is there something better?

Check air filter, Clean the mass air flow sensor and throttle body. Disconnect the battery.

Add some photos of your engine might have a hose loose

Agree on all above. And ... CHECK ALL VACUUM HOSES. After 20 years they tend to degrade/rot. Specifically cracking at the ends, sometimes the middle.

Listen for sucking/hissing sounds in the engine bay which could be indicative of intake gasket failure, or use the 'ol brake cleaner/propane/butane trick.

Get a decent handheld scanner to scan for codes, something with realtime monitoring that'll let you review fuel trims, and monitor O2 sensor voltages.

But sudden uptick in idle out of the blue, while driving on the interstate screams air leak - probably vacuum, possibly manifold.

Before you do any work, though, try this: Pull the negative battery cable for 10 minutes to force a relearn. Does the idle remain high at your next startup?
