Would a Blackstone oil test show warning signs that engine is about to seize up?

That sounds like someone dry started it while in service for trans issue.

@eddiefromcali is the test mule. He has had worsening samples but hasn’t experienced failure so the answer appears to be that it isn’t a good method for predicting when a failure will occur. It might be a good indicator on if a failure will occur but that’s TBD in my opinion.

Correct. I'm at 29,674 as of right now and oil psi is good...engine is just as quiet and strong as day one. Oil sample will be sent this weekend and will discontinue sampling as I expect to get a new engine before the next oil change is due.

    Edit:
    4/15/23 15k miles 5ppm Silver
    9/16/23 20k miles 11ppm
    3/24/24 25k miles 14ppm

No worries. I'll take a new engine at 30k any time.

Reading that some estimate it could take up to 2 years for Toyota to replace 100,000+ engines at its dealerships?

The engine replacement is the best possible outcome given the circumstances but it still sucks.

I changed my oil today and I reset Trip B with my oil changes. Over about 6500 miles, it said 25.0 MPG. I compared that with my hand calculations, which were 24.15 MPG over the same span. So, I went in and set the average fuel economy bias to 96.6% to make it more accurate for the future.

Some of this was towing and using the truck in generator mode during power outages. If I exempt those tanks, I'm at about 24.5 MPG as an unloaded summer average.

I seem to get 2 MPG better than my previous 3.5 EcoBoost in most conditions.

Summer mixed unloaded is 24.5 vs 22.5.

Highway at 72 MPH is 25, same drive with my last truck was 23.

Winter with this truck is less of a gain - about 21 average. Last truck was probably a hair under 20. I figure the cold weakens the battery output and it has to run the engine more to keep it warm.

I park next to Space White sometimes and prefer my avalanche's gray hue to its blue hue.

Nah, they'll push it back. Besides they got bigger problems than gas igniting...somehow that tracks right?

Pricing is getting insane. Almost $10k more than my truck and it has significantly downgraded headlights.

Someone has to pay for those massive losses taken for each EV sale they make.

It really sucks that trucks are the cash cow used to pay for these experiments

Yeah I feel your pain. In VA we get car taxed every year, my truck is still valued at what I paid for it. Partly because the new ones at $8k more than I spent at msrp in 22

I think it is insane that some states do this but think Pa is on trajectory to stuff like this eventually.

80-plus Tundras in stock at my local dealer. Don't know where real world negotiations are but showing mostly 4k off sticker online.

Powerboost is running well at 26k and 2 plus yrs. Gonna go in for an oil change in about a month and ask for a trans drain and fill. Still leaning towards it going bye bye around yr 8 for another pickup or else going to low mileage backup status if I get something more fun as a primary.

Hoping this new hybrid Ram looks OK if I stick with just a pickup. Or at least they can iron out any nagging problems by around 2030. The evolution of the hybrid tech fascinates me and I really want it to work well.

I have settled into the routine of drain and fills starting early in a vehicle's life and every 2 years instead of waiting to get 60 or 100k worth of crud out. My 09 Crewmax 6 speed was hiccup free after 113k so I planned to stick with that.

Already seeing articles about day to day consumer goods having to be discounted due to slowing demand. Just takes longer on vehicles because loans cushion the pain, extending peoples' breaking point farther. But it's coming.
